Stopped here for a night to coincide with visiting Jokulsarlon and anticipated needing much more time to see that, Fjallsarlon and just generally drvie from where I was the night before. There’s a lot of new expansion going on, and I was in one of the newer units.||Hotel highlights - Lady at the front desk when I checked in was awesome - I wish I'd remembered her name (older woman, we chatted about needing multiple pairs of glasses at our age) Quiet Rooms. I was in one of the newer cabins and there were a few things still under construction. For example, the deck was new, and there wasn't a really convenient way to step up onto it other than the sewer pipe or walking from an adjacent room. The lot's grade, and the presence of a travel trailer, made it easier just to park up front and bring what I needed in.||The room itself was very quiet. It has a southern facing view, and there’s no cover for the front glass door, so it was pretty bright inside. Fortunately, I had an eye mask (having learnt a valuable lesson on a previous Iceland trip). The hot water heater was leaking (? or maybe there was an overflow that wasn't connected), for which they had placed a bucket underneath to catch drips . It was a problem when people were taking showers in the evening (bap bap bap), but after sunset it was only a couple of drips an hour.||Food & drinks: Dinner was very good. Especially enjoyed the main entrée of vegan stuffed pepper. The sweet potato soup (of the day) was fantastic. ||Because it’s the only thing in the area, I did opt for the breakfast the next morning. It’s buffet style with a selection of oatmeal, regional meats, and cereal. The layout was a little challenging with toppings in a corner of a table wedged in a corner (and lids requiring three hands: one to hold your bowl, one to hold the lid and one to...
Read moreConveniently located. There are not a lot of hotels in the area so you will be paying more than this room is worth. The rooms were large and clean. Do not stay in room 15, it is sandwiched between the kitchen, the dining room and a supply closet/washer dryer. This room had a weird chemical smell, no TV and was by far the LOUDEST room we have stayed in. The noise from guests, kitchen, whatever stopped after 11:00 and started ip back up early (sorry didn’t check my watch) my husband put in ear plugs and still heard the noise. The room was hot but we opened the window which also helped with the smell. The shower only had a bottle of hand soap in it…I bring my own soap so it wasn’t a big deal for me. Also no hand towels, just a paper towel dispenser. Felt like I was staying in a hostel circa 1980 🤣. The beds were comfy. The black out curtains were horrible. The sink drained slowly. The towel hooks were on the back side of the shower (see pic) but there was a perfectly good spot to put them next to the shower. The shower holder was loose and kept sliding down. On a different note the food here was delicious both dinner and breakfast buffet. The service was also great in the restaurant and at the reception. They also have free coffee, tea and cocoa in the lobby. On a positive note the rooms were large and the staff...
Read moreWorst place we have booked in Iceland. Over priced, room, if that’s what you call it. It did have its own bathroom. The chalet was attached to another and every time they moved the whole chalet rocked it was very windy when we stayed there and the chalet moved all night. There were no coffee facility making in the room you had to walk all the way to the main area which was overcrowded like a hostel. There was only one pillow and the radiator was either off or on so basically it became quite stifling or freezing. I personally didn’t feel the place was particularly clean and I certainly would not want to stay there again of all the places we’ve stayed in Iceland, we’ve always been able to fill our coffee cups for our onward journey But here they charged to do that. For the price you would expect breakfast to be included after having an evening meal there we decided not to have breakfast when we saw the breakfast in the morning it was a wise decision. It was very, very basic. There was no TV in the room yet on all of the photographs on Booking.com there was a TV. The areas where you could go and sit in my opinion weren’t very pleasant. They’re obviously a very busy guest House but I feel they need to up their game. This place is full of coach...
