The water at Deildartunguhver hot spring emerges at a constant 97 degrees Celsius (207 degrees Fahrenheit), making it incredibly dangerous for those who venture too close. Thankfully, there are a number of wooden walkways and observation points that lead you around the hot springs without putting you at any risk. Due to the sheer energy bubbling under Deildartunguhver, much of the water is used for heating Icelandic homes. One pipe travels 34 kilometres (21 miles) to Borgarnes, whilst another travels 64 kilometres (40 miles) to Akranes. This means that if you’ve taken a shower or bath within a 64-kilometre radius of Deildartunguhver, you will have touched the water from the hot spring. Deildartunguhver is a hot spring located in Reykholtsdalur, a district of west Iceland. Deildartunguhver is the highest flowing hot spring in Europe and is widely known for its rapid flow rate of 180 litres (380...

A surreal experience of nature's hot springs with the dramatic steam and boiling water. Viewable at a distance as you're driving to the location, the hot spring is amazing to look up close. With the indicated areas of safe viewing platforms and information signs to read, its amazing to learn and photograph (if possible) of the area. Note, beware of the dog on-site, it's constantly attention-seeking and will approach incoming cars.

Fun fact: Water from this location is supplied to far away locations through the pipes and you'll notice maintenance buildings throughout Iceland...

This was the best pool we visited traveling the Ring road. We also visited the secret lagoon and Myvatn springs. While those were both great as well, Krauma offered a more luxurious experience. They have amazing showers, great smelling soaps and shampoos, and most importantly a variety of pools. They have two hotter pools around 40 C and three cooler pools. They also have a small lounge heated by a wood burning stove and a steam bath. They were priced Right between secret lagoon and Myvatn. I will come here again if I'm ever...

Raw earth power. Magnificent. This is what we Icelanders use to heat our houses with and also generate electricity.

It’s cool but will only keep your attention for a minute or two, really. I loved the bright red and green colours, the water springing out of the ground, and the steam. On a side note, there’s a dog there who is such a good girl! She’ll put a rock 🪨 at your feet and then lay down with her head on her paws 🐾 and wait for you to throw it. She LOVES playing fetch with visitors there. If you visit, please bring this very good girl a ball🎾 to play fetch with.🥹 (Her owner works at the spa up the hill - don’t worry, she’s okay.)
