Jón was honestly one of the best parts about our whole trip/honeymoon. He was so sweet and informative. His house and land is so interesting and we spent hours looking around and talking to him. We didn't know what to expect when we drove up, we weren't planning on spending a long time there and trying to find something to do since nothing else in the town was open early but I'm so glad we did. There was no other visitors at that hour and we received a very personal tour and experience. We still talk about him and our time at his place. We adore our dogs and bought them a toy that gets named after something/place that has an association to where we got it from every time we go on vacation and the stuffed animal that is the favorite of the house is called Jón from Iceland 😊. The best experience with a local we had the entire time we were there. He gave us free coffee and drinks and sold us a momento that I really wanted but wasn't finished; he immediately went to his shop and finished it for us. I was over the moon! Do not miss the opportunity to stop in if you can, he has so...

When stopping or staying in Djúpivogur, you MUST stop by and see Jón Friðrik Sigurðsson. You´ll find his house just up the road from Hótel Framtið (another place worth experiencing). You really can´t miss JFS; his house is yellow and decorated with all manner of art on the front side. Stepping into his backyard is like literally stepping into a museum, as this man has collected what has to be tens of thousands of rocks from the local valleys over the last 38 years.

Not to be outdone by his amazing collection, Mr. Sigurðsson is simply a person you do not want to miss. He can tell you stories about every rock in his collection, and if you step in to his workshop, you can buy some amazing art. Carvings in stone and reindeer antler are abundant, but again, the real attraction is the owner. We traveled the entire wonderful country of Iceland, and Mr. Sigurðsson will be one of the things that we remember most. We could have stayed all day had we not had more exploring to do.

PS: This guy is a HUUUUGE Manchester United fan, and if you're a Steven Gerrard fan?...

I’m a mineral collector from Taiwan, and during my trip to Iceland, I unexpectedly came across this place while browsing online. Despite being short on time, I’m really glad I made the effort to stop by, even briefly.

The owner, Jon, is a passionate man who has been collecting rocks in Iceland for over 40 years. He has an impressive and beautiful collection of local rocks and minerals — and some of these mineral specimens are even available for sale!

If you’re interested in Icelandic rocks or minerals, or even looking to collect a few, I highly recommend visiting this place and listening to Jon share the stories behind these stones.

During my trip with friends in Iceland, I often looked down at the rocks beneath my feet, occasionally found small vugs lined with tiny quartz or zeolite crystals. Being able to get these nice quality specimens directly from a local collector at reasonable prices is simply amazing — I’m...

Amazing surprise in such a remote place! We were on a long journey and decided to stop here for the stone garden. We were greeted by Jon, the caterer who personally presented us all of his collection. Each stone has a story as he has collected them all with passion. Moreover, he is very respectful of the environment, claiming that he never uses a pickaxe to remove stones from cliffs, instead relying on naturally loose stones. Check his small shop for handmade souvenirs, made not only by Jon himself but also his family!

Everything is handmade by Jon, who is really fun to talk to. We ended up buying a beautiful Helm of Awe necklace and a pair of earrings. Both pieces were made from raindeer horns Jon found during shedding season. Both pieces were well made and presented in a nice box. Make sure to sprinkle rocks in the mineral collection outside with water and you will be pleasantly surprised by the colours they have to show!
