Short review:
I had a great time, was skeptical about whether it would be worth the extra money but it definitely was. I also went to the secret lagoon which was about $25 and I would definitely rather go to the Sky lagoon once rather than the secret lagoon four times!
Long, detailed overview:
At check-in, they’ll provide you with two bracelets, one which is a “token” for the last couple of steps (because you can only do them once, more on the steps later) and the other which is kind of your key. You’ll use it to lock / unlock your lockers and pay for stuff at the lagoon. Don’t lose it! You can spend as much time as you want here! I stayed for about 3 hours. I went with the more affordable version which was 5 steps instead of 7 steps, i.e. lagoon, ice plunge, sauna, salt scrub, and steam room. After doing all the steps, you’ll loop back into the lagoon so that you can access the locker rooms again. Even though I was skeptical about whether the steps were really necessary, I did all of them (except the ice plunge) and they really added to the experience! If it’s your first time, definitely give it a try to see if you’ll at least enjoy it. Before the lagoon, there are gender-separated locker rooms with hair dryers provided and clean, private bathrooms and then a gender-separated shower area with semi-private stalls (and shampoo / body wash combo and conditioner) which will cover all the important stuff. Right after is the lagoon (everything is mix gendered from here on), so there’s no need to bring slippers. They also provide towels for drying off once you’re done with your whole experience! In the lagoon, there’s a bar so you can order drinks and some water. There’s also a bathroom. The infinity pool in the lagoon is lovely and has a great view, especially during sunset. Your phone is allowed everywhere, so you can feel free to bring it in to take pictures and videos. It may be inconvenient to carry it in the lagoon without a water-proof bag for your phone (the bar sells one, but for a hefty 2000 kr) so you might want to bring one. If you choose to bring your phone, note that right before the sauna, you’re able to drop your phone off in a phone locker so that you don’t have to go through go the rest of the steps carrying your phone around. You can still bring your phone if you want pictures in the sauna (the other steps aren’t really picture worthy in my opinion), but note that you’ll need to carry your phone the rest of the way. Swimsuit rental is also available at check-in, about 1500 kr, it’s a pretty standard one piece swimsuit and they come in different sizes. Just return it at check-out! There is a gift shop, a bar, and a small cafe in the general area before the locker rooms. I recommend not arriving between 5:30-6:00, at least in the winter, because about 5-6 tour buses arrived around that time and the lagoon and locker room became extremely crowded. I arrived at 3:00 and there were FAR fewer people which made the experience much more comfortable. Plus, I was able to see the sunset- absolutely breathtaking. I personally brought a robe which I used after showering after I exited the lagoon, and it made my experience much more comfortable. If you also enjoy using robes, definitely bring one because they’re not provided! Definitely make a reservation in advance- when I went they weren’t accepting any walk-ins. One thing to note is, the water is very warm but definitely not hot. If you prefer hot water, you might want to consider whether this’ll be a deal...
Read moreWarning: Price Trap and Confusing Booking System – Disappointing Experience with Sky Lagoon
We tried to book tickets via the official Sky Lagoon website and were left extremely frustrated. The standard prices advertised (around 12,000 + to 15,000+ ISK) are essentially never available. Even when checking months in advance, all that’s offered are the most expensive packages, usually priced at 19,900 ISK or more – 5,000 ISK above normal, with no clear explanation.
What’s worse is the website itself is confusing and not transparent. There are different packages listed, but it’s impossible to tell what you’re actually booking or why prices vary so drastically. Every attempt to choose a date leads you straight to the most expensive option, with no real chance of getting the basic price. It feels like a deliberate upsell strategy.
To make matters worse, a simple drink costs an extra 2,000 ISK, and they try to sell add-ons like that should already be included in the higher-tier packages. The whole system feels like it’s set up to push customers into overpaying, rather than offering fair choices.
We even asked on site for clarification – but not even the staff or manager could properly explain why the normal ticket options are never available or why the homepage lacks clear information. This is incredibly disappointing for a place that positions itself as a premium experience and you have to pay 300€ for 2-3 Hours for a couple!!
We seriously ask the owner or management: Why are the regular prices NEVER available? Why are customers constantly misled into thinking everything is fully booked – only to find that the overpriced options are still available? This feels like a deliberate strategy to make customers believe they are lucky to get any slot at all, while in reality, it’s just a clever pricing trap.
From what we experienced – and what many others seem to report – it’s hard not to feel that the entire system is designed to extract as much money as possible, rather than offering a fair or honest booking process. It gives the impression that customer experience comes second to profit maximization.
Even the staff and manager on site couldn’t explain why standard packages were unavailable. The booking process is confusing, full of unclear package names, constant upsells (like 2,000 ISK for a drink, or treatments already included in higher tiers), and no way to find out what you’re really paying for.
It’s frustrating and feels like a scam hidden behind a beautiful setting.
We ended up paying more than necessary, and while the lagoon itself is visually stunning and the sauna is pleasant, the entire experience is overshadowed by the feeling of being tricked.
This kind of pricing and marketing approach is deeply disappointing. We urge the owner or Sky Lagoon team to respond publicly and explain why things are set up this way – and to treat customers with more respect and honesty.
I strongly recommend booking through GetYourGuide or a travel agency, as they seem to offer discounted packages that aren’t available on the official website. Otherwise, you’re likely to overpay and end up confused and frustrated.
Yes, the lagoon is undeniably beautiful, and the sauna with the ocean view is lovely – but the booking experience is unprofessional, overpriced, and misleading. It left a bitter aftertaste on what should have been a relaxing day.
We left feeling misled and dissatisfied. Be very careful when booking – and definitely compare prices elsewhere.
Best Regards Aleksandar...
Read moreWe arrived at 4AM to Reykjavik international airport and had prebooked (with a discount code) Flybus for 2 for $53USD. After hanging around the airport, the bus dropped us in town (45 minutes) at the bus terminal where we grabbed a taxi to Sky Lagoon (20 minutes) for $34USD. We had prebooked the 7-Step Ritual for 2 on TripAdvisor for $195USD total (with coupon code) for a 9AM time. We waited around outside for a bit (not much around at all) and they opened right around that time, with probably 15 of us in line. We had brought duffle bags with us and we confirmed they would not fit in the free lockers in the changing rooms, so we were charged $15USD total to store our 2 bags in a secured room (even the attendant couldn't believe we had to pay for that service). The place is very nice and clean and quiet. You remove your shoes and enter the separate male/ female rooms where you can put your swimsuit on and leave everything else in a locker secured by your wristband. Before entering the sauna, you grab a towel...remove your swimsuit...and use on of the showers to clean off. The showers are in a big room but well spaced and have a privacy barrier and a door so you just see the top of people's chest and head but nothing else. The supplied soap and shampoo is nice smelling and the water is great and hot. You then enter the large lagoon which is wonderfully designed and feels like you are in nature and winds out to a larger area with an amazing overlook of the ocean. We were advised to go straight to our "7-step ritual" as there are time blocks.....technically step 1 is the large pool everyone gets with entrance....so we then did step 2 via a quick dunk in the small little cold pool (not very pleasant TBH)...and then you enter a separate area for the rest of the ritual. To be clear, you can go in here one time ONLY so take your time and enjoy it. Next for step 3 you enter the dry sauna with amazing views.....then to step 4 which is giant cool mist room....step 5 is a salt scrub they give you to put on in a big open room.....step 6 is a steam room (which is small and filled quickly)...and step 7 is a tiny little shot of fruit tea. So, the additional 6 steps probably took everyone about 30 minutes as far as we could tell. There is no time limit to using the main lagoon. They will provide you free water at the bar, but all other beverages have a charge. We enjoyed the additional 6-steps and worth another $20 perhaps, but since you can't return and go to the items you enjoyed, it has limited value. Still that doesn't matter because the lagoon itself is so nice. Honestly, we enjoyed this place more than Blue Lagoon and found it a better value. Probably 3-4 hours is adequate time to have a leisurely visit. Our taxi (there are always some coming and going) back to town and direct to the Reykjavik cruise...
