La chiesa si trova nella punta estrema di Reykjavik, in una località chiamata Seltjarnarnes, da qui il nome che tradotto vuol dire proprio "chiesa di Seltjarnarnes". L'idea dell'architetto era di rappresentare il ghiacciaio Snæfellsjökull che ricopre il vulcano Snæfell, che si vede di fronte alla chiesa (a patto che il cielo sia chiaro), lo stesso ghiacciaio che cita Jules Verne nel libro "Viaggio al centro della Terra" .Da qui i tetti bianchi che si elevano verso l'alto. L'interno è per lo più in legno e ciò conferisce all'ambiente un'eccellente acustica, tant'è che rappresenta uno dei luoghi preferiti dai cori. Non si trova molto vicino alla città di Reykjavik, personalmente ho optato per un taxi con 25 euro mi ha portato fino alla chiesa e dopo ci ha portati al porto.
