Darri guided us through the museum and was an incredible guide. We learned so much about the 16th century monastery on the premises and all the related history about such monasteries across the country through his guidance.

There was a virtual reality set up to picture what the monastery looked like when fully functional which we looked at after seeing the ruins. There were also augmented reality elements to the museum that would be fun for kids and adults alike.

The museum was unbelievably well done, and Darri was so knowledgeable and shared so much information for us. It felt like we had our own personal tour guide.

I only wish we could have...

We came for the lunch buffet and it absolutely delivered. For 35€, we ate more than enough, we're a group of 25-year-olds with big appetites, and this place didn’t hold back.

The food was tasty, varied, and clearly made with locally sourced ingredients. More than a restaurant, it felt like having lunch at an Icelandic relative’s home, comforting, generous, and full of character.

And the vibes? Just perfect. Warm, relaxed, and genuine. Elizabeth, who's been there for over 25 years, welcomed us like family.

Out of our 14-day trip, this was without a doubt the most authentic and memorable meal. If you want a real taste of Iceland, this...

One of the coolest places in Iceland. Your surrounded by mountains in a beautiful field where there is an amazing buffet with wonderful food and friendly staff. Next to the restaurant is the ruins of a medieval monastery founded at the end of the 15th century. There's little more than fieldstone foundations but it was still fascinating as each room is marked and tells you what the archeologists found there. To make the place even cooler its right near a lake with a legendary sea serpent. Make sure you stop at the pull off the read the sign about the monster on your way to or...

The museum has an interesting exhibition of the life and work of author Gunnar Gunnarsson as well as history and information about the former church Skriðuklaustur. Fun virtual reality experience inside the house and the staff had great knowledge about the history of the place. Beautiful plants decorated the house and the cafe on the lower floor had a kids play area. Outside the cafe is also a small sandbox that kids can play in. The path to the church ruins are accessible by wheelchair.
