Without a doubt, our favorite meal we had on the trip. This is a lunch buffet located in the farmstead of a famous Icelandic author that has been turned into a museum with a small dining room for the homemade lunch buffet. The food is entirely homemade and is served family buffet style with a large table right by the kitchen for serving all the food. The "menu" changes daily but they are well known for their soups and homemade cakes which were all absolutely delicious. There was so much food and all of it traditional Icelandic, we had plates of reindeer pie, baked cod, curried lamb, rice, potatoes, vegetables. And then there's the bread. They bake multiple types of fresh bread and serve them still warm with amazingly creamy butter. The rye bread was the best bread I have ever had in my life and I had to get a plat just for the bread alone. This is a must visit, no matter how far of a detour you must take. Read moreWell, this was such a glorious spot to stop after a morning of adventure and hiking. It's situated in such an incredible location with stunning views all around. The staff were super smiley and friendly, which made us feel very welcome. They were attentive and explained the options for all you can eat cake and savories with coffee or hot chocolate from the buffet. This is an AMAZING deal for your money and there was a lovely variety to choose from.
I opted to have lunch from their menu, choosing a fish soup, which was exactly what I was craving after a long hike. It was a beautiful creamy soup, a large portion and I wouldn't hesitate in ordering again (it was that nice!)
All in all, a lovely place to visit (it's also a museum) with friendly staff and plenty of space for large groups. We'd definitely come back...

The cakes were definitely tasty, though some were a bit dry - I think they had been out for a while or from the day before. The date cake was fresh however, and excellent. The various breads were also good, and we enjoyed the grape and cheese spread. The best part, however, was a kind of 'quiche' made from eggs, bacon, and bread, called beikon-baka. Totally delicious.
After enjoying the buffet we explored the remains of the cloister outside. It is very moving to think about the lives that were lived there, surrounded by the peace and beauty of the mountains. Everything is very well signed in both Icelandic and English, making it very...
