One day in Agra Itinerary (SAVE + SHARE): Sunrise at Taj Mahal: as you can see even at 6am the crowds are big! It gets really hot during the day time so for comfortable temps early morning or late evening is best. (see my last post for all the details) Lunch at Pinch of Salt Visit to Itimad-ud-Daulah (Baby Taj), entrance fee is 310 INR, kids under 15 are free and it’s open sunrise to sunset every day. Agra Fort cost 650 INR for foreigners and kids under 15 are also free. If you show your Taj Mahal ticket you get a 50 INR discount. It’s also open daily. If you’d like to shop a bit you can head to the local market afterwards and there is also lots of street food to try but we chose to do a street food tour with a guide to ensure the places we were eating wouldn’t give us Delhi Belly! Dinner at Kiskey Whiskey In Agra you can also visit the Mehtab Bagh and you can take a “boat ride” that overlooks the Taj Mahal. We did the boat ride and I personally don’t think it’s worth it, there’s only one boat (that seats 5ppl maximum) so the wait is long and the boat really should be replaced or fixed up. It was really nice to see the reflection of the Taj Mahal in the river but it’s not a must do at all imo. We stayed at the Fairfield by Marriott but it was not our favorite. The bathroom was modern which was a plus but our room smelled like cigarettes. Thankfully we used points to book so it cost of nothing. If you’ve been and have a better hotel recommendation please leave it in the comments! Lots of people just do a day trip to Agra from Delhi but having a full day is nice, especially for the ability arrive at the Taj Mahal for sunrise. Plus we were moving around the country so it just made sense. Let me know if you have any questions!

Mehtab Bagh, located on the opposite bank of the Yamuna River from the Taj Mahal in Agra, offers a serene and captivating experience for visitors seeking a unique perspective of this UNESCO World Heritage site. This historic garden, dating back to the 17th century during the Mughal era, serves as a picturesque retreat away from the bustling crowds typically found at the Taj Mahal itself. The primary allure of Mehtab Bagh is undoubtedly its unparalleled view of the Taj Mahal. From across the river, the garden provides a panoramic vista of the majestic monument, perfectly framed against the tranquil waters of the Yamuna and the lush greenery of the garden itself. This vantage point is particularly enchanting at sunrise and sunset, when the changing hues of the sky cast a magical glow over the marble mausoleum, offering photographers and admirers alike an unforgettable sight. The layout of Mehtab Bagh features well-manicured lawns, symmetrical pathways, and strategically placed pavilions and fountains, all reflecting the Mughal penchant for symmetry and aesthetics. Visitors can explore the garden at leisure, enjoying moments of peace and quiet amidst its historical charm. While amenities such as basic refreshment stalls and restroom facilities are available, Mehtab Bagh primarily appeals to those seeking natural beauty and historical context rather than extensive tourist services. Accessibility is convenient, with parking facilities and easy access for both private vehicles and public transport. In conclusion, Mehtab Bagh is a hidden gem in Agra, offering a tranquil escape and breathtaking views of the Taj Mahal that complement any visit to this iconic city of architectural wonders.

The Royal view of The Tajmahal, comes from here. Generally nobody cimes here yo visit, so this place is good for those who doesn't want so much crowd. The garden ia royal by decor and spread in a huge landmass. This is the perfect picnic spot for couples and newlyweds. The main theme of this garden is Mughal, but the tree are present in the garden are truly Indian. The main art of this garden is Royal Mughal style. You can find multiple natural corridors along with trees, that looks perfect. The outside of the Garden is also wonderful. To reaching this, you need to book an auto and ride directly. The roads of Agra is quite nostalgic. Various Temples, mosques and grounds comes by way. There are Banyan, Pakad, Peepal and Mango treees in the garden. The breeze feels so charasmatic and calm that you feel relax in no time. From the backside of the ground, you see the marvelous view of The Tajmahal. The archiology of this garden is different. The border looks fantastic and astonishing at the same time. The bank of Yamuna is also visible. You can find various spot to hangout in this garden. A ready to go destination for all tourists and couples. Pro tip:- You need to hire your vehicle or it's better to visit this place from your own vehicle. The Uber- ola and local rickshaw either cancelled your booking or demand a very high price.

The only reason you will visit to this place is you can get a plenty of good pictures of Taj Mahal. otherwise I don't find any importance of this place. And to be very frank the park was may be under maintenance or may be not well maintained.when you visit Taj Mahal, the rush is generally huge, and everyone wants to get some good pictures with Taj, but most of the time, you will be distributed by many to be in side, or you will only be able to take photographs for 2-3 minutes. This garden is on the just backside of Taj Mahal and the view is gorgeous. The entry ticket will cost you around 40 rupees ( not sure but not very expensive) . But if you want to love the beauty of Taj , you can visit this place. One suggestion I can also give to you is there is a pavement next to this garden that will take you to Taj View Point and you will be charged rs 50/- for that and that ticket worth more than the Mehtab Bagh or atleast I feel that.As the view from that point is awesome. You can spend around 1 hour if you love photography or love sighting. The only thing to remember is that the park located somehow outside of the city so keep remember this thing. I tried to help you as much as I can and if you find it worth please press like button.

This garden is 7 km from Taj Mahal. I wanted to go there because a couple of my friends who were born and brought up in Agra, swear by this place. So after getting disappointed with the super crowded Taj Mahal, I taken an auto for 100 INR and headed straight towards Mehtab bagh. It is situated in quite an isolated place amidst village and so the crowd isnt decent at all there. Also, No tourists go there because this place is known mostly to localites. But the kind of view that it offered was above and beyond my expectations. Even Taj Mahal at 06:00 a.m. visit wouldnt offer this kind of amazing view that we happen to see from Mehtab bagh. Taj alongwith East and West gates can be seen from this bagh and the best part is - it isnt crowded at all and ticket comes half the price. Tickets for Mehtab bagh strolling is for just 25 INR. the only thing is that there isn't much to do in this bagh, 30 minutes visit will be good enough. I spent an hour though. Also, after viewing this bagh, one can choose to visit Red Fort which is around 3 km from garden. I chose to skip Agra fort because I am not much into visiting mainstream places.

Entrance fee is way too high (Rs.300 cash, Rs.250 card), the garden itself is nothing special and is only there so you would not be able to see the Taj Mahal from up straight across the river. There's a free viewpoint next to it when you follow the road along the entrance, though you are officially not allowed to go there. There's a guard, but you know, just be polite and ask for it. I saw both sunrise and sunset there (yes I paid twice, the fool I am), and sunrise was definitely the more beautiful one. There was fog, making it a rather mysterious sight. It depends all on the light though. Since the taj mahal is oriented south, the sun rises and sets on the sides, which implies no sunrise or set behind the monument, unless you are on the river in a boat maybe (didn't try that though). The park closes at 'sunset', so if you arrive at only 5pm don't expect to be there for too long, they started closing the park at 6pm when we were there. TL;DR: if you want to see the taj mahal from up straight you have to pay the entrance fee. Otherwise there's no reason to be there.
