It's not really a hanging pillar. It has support at the end. We tried getting a piece of cloth from beneath it, but that didn't come out, got stuck at a point. Besides, I don't really know why it was even built as a hanging pillar, if it was intentionally and not just an architectural flaw.

One big mystery at the Lepakshi temple is how the hanging piller was constructed or carved, a combination of engineering techniques and architectural design was used to create this remarkable structure.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Hanging Pillar – A Marvel of Ancient Engineering

The Hanging Pillar at the Veerabhadra Swamy Temple in Lepakshi is truly one of the most astonishing architectural wonders I’ve ever seen. Among the 70+ stone pillars inside the temple, there is one that does not touch the ground – a small gap is visible beneath it, and you can even pass a thin cloth or paper underneath to test it. This mysterious feature is not a flaw but a deliberate engineering marvel built during the Vijayanagara dynasty in the 16th century.

What’s incredible is that this pillar supports part of the temple ceiling and yet remains suspended, showing the advanced knowledge of balance, weight distribution, and craftsmanship the ancient builders possessed. Guides at the temple explain the history and how even British engineers once tried to investigate the pillar without success.

Beyond just being a tourist curiosity, the hanging pillar is a symbol of India’s rich architectural legacy. Surrounded by stunning carvings, frescoes, and the spiritual aura of the temple, this spot is a must-visit. It leaves you with a deep sense of wonder and admiration for the brilliance of our ancestors.

Highly recommended for history lovers, students, and curious minds...

Lepakshi is a fascinating place with many remarkable attractions. One of the main highlights is the Veerabhadra Temple, known for its intricate carvings and stunning architecture. It's a place that takes you back in time and leaves you in awe.

One of the most unique features of the Veerabhadra Temple is the famous "hanging pillar." It's a pillar that doesn't touch the ground completely. It's astonishing to see how it defies gravity and remains suspended in the air. It's a true marvel of engineering and craftsmanship.

Apart from the temple, Lepakshi has other places of interest as well. Lepakshi is a place where history and spirituality come alive. Exploring its rich heritage and cultural treasures is a rewarding experience. If you have an interest in ancient architecture and unique attractions, Lepakshi is a destination...

The rating is not for this beautiful wonder, but for what is happening to it. The entire area is encroached by the a particular community who monopolizes the parking and the everything that is of monetary value in the area a mosque is blaring noise 5 time a day that there is not god but Alan i. Arabic at a hands distance from this temple. And the aboriginals are there begging on the streets. The AP tourism has done a pathetic job by building a fake jatayu theme parks which is again monopolized by the one community. So effectively, all those who visit have to pay money for parking in front of locals houses and the temple is going to shambles. 5 years ago it was in a much better shape and in next 5 years it may not even be standing with the shabbing...
