Azhimala Beach is also known as Vizhinjam Beach. Just a short drive from Kovalam is the much quieter, laid back Azhimala Beach. Compared to the hustle and bustle along the coast this is a wonderfully peaceful and natural location.

Spend some time at Beach and in the village that flanks the waterfront. With unpredictable waves and limited maintenance, Azhimala Beach is not considered a swimming beach. However, don't let that put you off asking boat operators for a ride out to sea, where you'll enjoy spectacular views of the coast.

Overlooking the beach is the Azhimala Siva Temple, a great spot for taking in the sunset. Just outside of Azhimala is an additional sacred site, Vizinjam Rock Cave. Inspect the outer walls of the granite cave to see reliefs of the Hindu deities, Lord Shiva and his wife, Parvati. Go inside for the sculpture of Vinandhara Dakshinamurthi, another deity.

Azhimala Beach is a great place to come if you are in need of some stress relief. Not only do the sea views have a calming effect, but there are also numerous ayurvedic treatment centers dotted around the region. Treat yourself to a soothing oil-drip massage.

Azhimala Beach is approximately 1.9 miles (3 kilometers) from Kovalam. If you are based in Thiruvananthapuram, come by taxi, rental car or a 1 hour...

Azhimala Shiva Temple, located in the coastal village of Azhimala near Kovalam in Kerala, is a revered Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. Perched on a rocky cliff overlooking the Arabian Sea, the temple is famous for its breathtaking ocean views and serene ambiance. The highlight of the temple is the massive 58-foot-tall statue of Lord Shiva, one of the tallest in South India. This intricately sculpted statue, depicting Shiva in a meditative yet fierce posture with flowing hair, has become a major attraction for devotees and tourists alike. The temple's name, "Azhimala," means "mountain by the sea," aptly describing its stunning location. Devotees flock to the temple, especially on Mondays and during Maha Shivaratri, to seek blessings and witness the spiritual grandeur of the place. Just below the temple lies Azhimala Beach, a pristine and lesser-known coastal paradise. The beach is famous for its golden sands, rocky outcrops, and mesmerizing sunsets. Unlike the more commercialized beaches in Kerala, Azhimala Beach retains a peaceful and untouched charm, making it perfect for relaxation and photography. Together, Azhimala Shiva Temple and Beach offer a unique blend of spirituality and natural beauty, making it a must-visit destination in Kerala.

Breathtaking Views, Heart-Pounding Experience Rating: 5/5 I have visited the cliff at Azhimala several times and was left awestruck by its sheer scale and natural beauty. The moment I stepped near the edge, I felt a rush of adrenaline and a sense of wonder. The vast expanse of the landscape unfolded before me, with the wind whipping my hair and the sun casting a golden glow over the scenery. The cliff's rugged texture and dramatic drop-off made for a thrilling experience, and I found myself feeling both terrified and exhilarated at the same time. The views were simply stunning, with the distant horizon stretching out as far as the eye could see. If you're looking for a unique and unforgettable experience, I highly recommend visiting this cliff. Just be sure to exercise caution and respect the natural environment. *Pros:* - Breathtaking views - Thrilling experience - Unique natural wonder *Cons:* - Can be dangerous if not approached with caution - Weather conditions can affect visibility and safety Overall, I would highly recommend this cliff to anyone seeking an adventure or a chance to connect with nature's raw power.
