Kattigenahalli Lake is a natural lake located in Kattigenahalli, which is a village near Bangalore, India. The lake covers an area of approximately 56 acres and is a significant water body in the region. Over the years, Kattigenahalli Lake has faced various environmental challenges, including encroachment, pollution, and siltation. These factors have resulted in the deterioration of the water quality, loss of aquatic vegetation, and reduced biodiversity. The local authorities have implemented measures to prevent encroachment and pollution, such as fencing the lake, planting trees around the periphery, and creating a walking trail. These efforts include desilting the lake bed, planting native species of vegetation, and releasing fish species to enhance the aquatic biodiversity. The restoration efforts have led to a significant improvement in the lake's water quality and the return of several bird species to the area. The lake now serves as an important habitat for local and migratory bird species, including painted storks, pelicans, and...
Read moreKattigenahalli Lake is one of those underrated spots in Yelahanka that’s slowly getting better with time. The view is actually quite nice, especially during early mornings or late evenings — you’ll catch a good breeze and a calm vibe away from the city noise. The walking path around the lake is decent and locals use it for jogging or evening strolls. There are benches placed at intervals where you can sit and relax peacefully.
The lake does need a bit more regular cleaning — sometimes you’ll notice plastic waste or algae patches near the edges. But overall, it’s still one of the cleaner lakes around this area. You’ll often spot ducks and birds, which makes it even better if you’re into photography or just want a quiet place to chill.
If the authorities maintain it consistently and add some lighting and security during evenings, this could easily become one of the best hangout and walking spots in North Bangalore. Definitely worth visiting if you stay nearby or just want to spend some quiet time...
Read moreThe lake is usually a great place for working and jogging; however, I experienced discrimination. The female guard was very rude, and it’s not the first time she has treated people poorly who are not from Karnataka. We were just dancing, and she told us to leave the lake if we weren't walking because dancing was not allowed. But I have seen other people making reels. She even asked, "Do you think this is your state?"
Today, I also witnessed a guy smoking, which is prohibited, and the guard came over and hit him. She asked the same question: do you think this is your state? She could have handled the situation peacefully by issuing a fine instead of resorting to violence. There could be violence if the guy reacted. Hitting someone with a stick that's not at all right.
Please do something about this. We study here and come to the park to relax and relieve stress. We should not be treated this way simply because we are not from Karnataka. Hope you put this...
