Lovely clean white sand beach, busier around the beach shacks but a short walk and you have it to yourself.
Visited over Christmas 2017. There are various access points to this public beach (either via hotels or from the main road). You will find a variety of beach shacks clustered around the access points where you can use their sunbeds for free in exchange for buying a beer or two (around £1 for large 660ml bottle) or a snack / meal. All we tried served really good food and the people running them are very friendly and attentive. We would spend around £15-20 per day for food and drink for a family of 4. Our personal favourites were Baywatch and Qbaa near the Dona Sylvia entrance.
There are lifeguards on duty all along the beach pretty much from dawn to dusk, the sea is really warm and can get quite wavy so lots of fun to be had belly surfing etc. Pretty small tide movements and at low tide you can go out for quite a way whilst still being able to touch the floor, watch out for the undertow though, it can get a little strong.
You do have to run the gauntlet of the beach sellers which some people find unsettling but if you are not interested a polite 'no thank you' repeated a couple of times gets the message across and you are left alone. I had the best massage ever from Bob who has a "salon" behind the Qbaa shack, he really knows his stuff.
We were very impressed with the dedication of the locals in keeping this beach tidy, the bins are emptied every day and litter pickers also patrolled daily. They know that they have a little piece of palm fringed paradise here and do their best to keep it that way four our enjoyment. We wanted to adopt all the beach dogs, saying that, they all seemed pretty happy and contented. There is a local charity that looks after them and is running a neutering programme to help keep the numbers under control.
Worth visiting just for the...
