SHREE SANTRAM TEMPLE

Located in the middie of Nadiad-the land of shrines and scholars-Shree Santram temple is a very famous religious place. An incarnation of Lord Dattatreya, Yogiraj Avdhut Shree Santram Maharaj is the founder of this temple. He manifested himself on Mount Girnar for the welfare of human beings

Travelling from place to place, enlightening people on the way and performing many acts for their welfare, Maharajshree arrived at Piplag village, on the outskirts of Nadiad. There, in the farm of Poojabhai Patel, a renowned farmer of Nadiad, he used to meditate regularly in the natural cavity formed in the trunk of a huge "Rayan Tree". For having a bath, he used to go to a nearby well-"Dungakul From there granting the prayer of his devotee Poojabhai, Maharajshree came to Nadiad and continued his sadhna for many years in Poojabhar's farm.

In the evening of the auspicious full moon day of the month "Magh" (4th month as per Hindu Calander) in V.S. 1887 (CE 1830) Maharajshree entred into Maha Samadhi. At that time a divine light emerged for His mid-head and kindled the pre-set lamps, filled with ghee, which keep on lighting continously even today, guiding and blessing all devotees. At the time of Maharaj's Maha Samadhi gods showered sugar crystals from the sky.

In order to commemorate this divine occassion, once in a year, on the auspicious ful-moon day of the month "Magh" at 6:00 p.m. sugar crystals are showered and the head-priest of the temple His Divine Holiness Shree Santram Maharaj (every head-priest of the temple is also addressed as Shree Santram maharaj) performs "Aarti' at the "Samadhi-Sthan.

After Maharaj's Mahasamadhi his chief disciple, Shree Laxmandasji Maharaj built "Samadhi-Sthan" and over it a grand temple. In "Samadhi-Sthan" (the holy memorial over the place of Maha Samadhi) are ceremoniously installed the divine flame, the cushioned seat and Shree Santram Maharaj's divine lotus- feet. On the right side of Maharaj's Samadhi is Shree Laxmandasji Maharaj's Samadhi.

As per the tradition of the temple, the head-priest of the temple (at present, ninth Mahant in succession, His divine Holiness Shree Ramdasji Maharaj] never leaves the temple premises during his lifetime.

The Santram Temple runs on "Aakashvrutti" ie any type of fund raising in the name of Shree Santram temple is strictly prohibited. Santram Temple does not solicit any type of donation from anybody.

There is no Idol in Santram Temple. Here Maharaj's divine flame, the cushioned seat. His divine lotus feet and His Divine Holiness Shree Laxmandasji Maharaj's photo are daily worshipped. Any other Maharaj's photographs are not kept.

Taking His Divine Holiness Shree santram Maharaj's or Samadhi-sthan's photo is strictly prohibited.

In Poojabhai's farm at Piplag, where Maharaj Shree used to meditate, on that holy land stands "The Santram Deni". There is a carved marble lotus inside, in the middle of which are ceremoniously installed Shree Santram Maharaj's divine lotus-feet. To visit The Santram Deri" on Thursdays is considered very auspicious.

At "Dungakul". Where Maharajshree used to take bath, on that holy land "Shree Santrameshwar Mahadev has been built recently.

Santram Temple provides every type of relief to the victims of naturel disasters like earthquake, food, drought, fire, rail-accidents etc.

Father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi stayed here with freedom fighters and addressed a meeting.

during his famous "Dandi-March" on 15th March 1930 Daily, free meal is served to pilgrims, outstation devotees, needy patients and their relatives.

Santaram Mandir is located in Nadiad, Gujarat and manages by Santram Maharaj organization trust. Shree Santram Maharaj was the great saint of Avdhoot group and came here at Nadiad in Samvat 1872 from Girnar, Junagadh, thus famous as Girnari Bava. He stayed here at Nadiad for 15 years and took the Jivant Samadhi on the Purnima of the month Magh in Vikram Samvat 1887 at ancient Rayan-tree where the ‘Deri’ is located at present. Santram Maharaj had established Ashram and temple here on selfless request of Poojbhai patel and started various spiritual work.

There were many Parcha – miracles of Shree Santaram Maharaj, in those two are very popular. Santaram Maharaj had full control over five element of life. A man came with rope and bucket to fetch water from well near Rayan Tree where Shree Santaram Maharaj stayed. Santram Maharaj requested him to kept rope and bucket but man did not kept it. Once he came back to take water Shree Santram Maharaj was taking bath and water came automatically with power of great saint. Anothere miracle was related to Kanbi, devotee of Maharaj. Once Santram Maharaj asked for milk and he replied that his buffalo stop giving milk then Santram Maharaj gave Tambipatra – vessel used by saints and told to come with milk in evening and with blessed of Santram Maharaj, buffalo started giving milk.

At present Shree Ramdasji Maharaj is nine Mahant of Santram Mandir Nadiad.
