Good for family and friends for picnic 🧺 In 1974 the Indore zoo was established in Navlakha area in only 17 acres land, later on in the year 1999 adjoining 32 acres land of Quadibag was "Acquired" by the zoo so present area of Indore zoo is 51 acres. The total area of Indore zoo is full of greenery where different variety of trees and other plants gives natural feeling of forest to the wild animals. This is the largest zoological garden of theĀ stateĀ and one of the oldest zoological parks ofĀ Madhya PradeshĀ spread over an area of 210335 sq m. Kamla Nehru Prani Sangrahlaya is one of the recognized zoos out of total 180 recognized zoos in India. The zoo has different varieties of animals and birds which have been brought from different parts of world. The zoo's attempts to breed white tiger, pick ock, deer, cats, elephant, tiger, lion 🦁have been successful. Indore zoo is also a center for reproduction, protection and exhibition of animals, plants and their habitats In 2017, Indore Zoo became the first smart zoo of India. Tourists could receive interesting facts about animals and birds when they came near them. Tourists were to install a free app namedĀ Accio – which showed interesting information about the animals. This made tourists appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of each and every animal, resulting in more immersive experience. Bluetooth and IoT technologies were used to make this happen. The project was launched in collaboration with a startup launched by 2Ā IIT IndoreĀ Computer Science Graduates, Shikhar Bansal and Ravi Shankar Bharti.

A Wild Surprise at Indore Zoo! Indore Zoo was a delightful experience — far beyond what I expected! It’s not just about the lions, tigers, and bears; what truly amazed me were the lesser-known species that I had never seen before. As I strolled through the well-maintained pathways, I came across some rare and almost mystical creatures. One that caught my eye looked like a cross between a deer and a zebra — turns out it was an Okapi, an incredibly elusive animal found in Central Africa! I had only read about it in books. Another jaw-dropper was a peculiar-looking bird with bright blue feathers and an unusually shaped beak — possibly a Shoebill Stork (though I had to Google it later). It just stood still with an intense stare — like a statue watching you! There was also a reptile enclosure with a lizard that looked like a mini-dragon, known as the Armadillo Girdled Lizard. Its armor-like body and defensive posture were something right out of a fantasy novel. What made the experience even better was that the zoo had good signage and information boards that helped me understand more about these animals — many of which are endangered or extremely rare. Perfect for families, wildlife lovers, and curious explorers alike. Don’t forget to take your camera and a bit of patience — you never know what unknown wonders you might spot!

Indore Zoo is well maintained and highly visited places. It is clean and well maintained. Highlights: 1. Ticket booking counter is well organized and staff are trained well. 2. Bird's special zone, Snakes Zone and Tigers area are treat to watch. 3. There are many animals and birds unlike many other zoos which are just for namesake. 4. Fountain is also well maintained and good place to hand around. 5. Park/Ground though not so maintained but good place to relax after long walk. 6. Has battery operated vehicles for old and needy. Can be Improved: 1. Parking space is one of the biggest issue especially on holidays. 2. Canteen should have better seating arrangements. Also standard food option and preparation is not there. It is close of on street food standards which spoil one's health if they are not use to it. 3. Park for kids should be better maintained. Many get broken overtime and needs frequent repair especially when so many people visits. 4. Lacks enough seating places. Should have more chairs and stools around for more crowd. Despite having few negatives, I will staill go with high ratings since it is better than most of the zoos I have visited in India.

Animal Welfare Concerns.

The aviary is visually appealing, but I am highly dissatisfied with the care provided to the animals inside. Who thought it was a good idea to place rabbits and guinea pigs in an aviary with large birds like macaws? Most of these small mammals appeared sick, and we even saw two visibly unwell rabbits confined together in a cramped cage.

Since rabbits and guinea pigs stay on the ground, they are at risk of being stepped on or injured by visitors due to ineffective barriers. Children can also easily reach through these barriers, potentially causing harm to the animals.

Another major concern is their diet. All the animals, including birds, rabbits, and guinea pigs, are reportedly fed the same diet of fruits and seeds. This is inappropriate, as their nutritional needs differ significantly. Providing species-specific diets could help prevent illnesses and improve their overall health.

Rabbits and guinea pigs, being domesticated breeds, should not be kept in such an environment in the first place. This setup is unsuitable and poses risks to their well-being.

These issues are just a few among many problems at the zoo. For instance, the monkeys are kept surrounded by stagnant water, and iguanas are given only small tubs to sustain themselves. There is also an elderly elephant in poor physical and mental condition, seemingly kept on display despite its obvious suffering.

Since the aviary has gained significant popularity, I felt it was important to highlight these concerns. I urge the zoo owners and zookeepers to address these issues promptly. Additionally, I request the Nagar Nigam of Indore to conduct a thorough inspection of the zoo to ensure the animals' welfare is...
