The Mahakali temple famous as Bawe Wali Mata Temple has been built on a elevated platform and houses a black stone coloured idol of the Goddess Mahakali. Kali Mata Mandir is built within the premises of Bahu Fort, which overlooks the mighty Tawi River. The surrounding forest area has been converted into a beautiful park known as the “Bagh-e-Bahu”. Influenced by the Mughal gardens, the park provides a fantastic view of Jammu city. A newly constructed aquarium is also an added tourist attraction. The fort was built by Raja Bahulochan around 3000 years ago. The temple is considered to be second only to the Mata Vaishnodevi temple. A number of devotees make a beeline to Jammu each year to soak in the spiritual aura of the region. Built using white marble on a raised platform about 3.9 feet high, this temple has an idol of goddess Maha Kali in black stone. This is a small temple from within so only a few devotees can enter at time. Important information- 👇 A must visit site Mahakali temple in Bahu fort. This is the supreme Goddess of Jammu region Mahakali also called Bawe wali Mata located near Gurkha Nagar within the premises of Bahu fort, the mighty fort originally constructed by Raja Bahu lochan. Jammu trip is incomplete without the attendance here. Ton reach here while comimg from Pathankot side, right turn has to be taken just before crossing the Tawi River and follow the easily accessible signboards . The mobiles, cameras and leather belongings are not allowed here. The mobiles can be placed at any shop near the temple from where the devotees can purchase Burfi or Halwa prasaad. @@

What ever is your wish it is full fill here The temple is considered to be second only to the Mata Vaishnodevi temple. Built using white marble on a raised platform about 3.9 feet high, this temple has an idol of goddess Maha Kali in black stone. This is a small temple from within so only a few devotees can enter at time. Animal sacrifice was widely practiced in the past, but nowadays temple priest perform a few rituals and sprinkles holy water over a sheep or goat before setting it free as a symbolic rendition of the sacrifice. This ritual is known as Shilly Charana. Devotees offer a sweet pudding known as Kadah to the goddess after their wishes have been fulfilled by her. Everyday at dawn many local girls visit the temple. They are worshipped by the pilgrims and devotees as Kanjaks and offer them money, bangles, sweets and pieces of clothing known as chunnis. The people of Jammu have a staunch belief that goddess Kali who resides in this temple protects Jammu from Pakistani air attacks. The temple premises are home to a big group of Rhesus monkeys, supposed to be the largest group in Jammu and Kashmir state. Cameras, sunglasses, food, hats should be kept away from their sight as they are notorious for snatching away such things from visitors.

I live in Delhi, but whenever I come to Jammu, I feel like visiting Bawe Mata. Today, I went there again with my parents and 10-year-old daughter, but my experience was not good. There's no proper parking arrangement, and after a lot of hassle, I found parking 2 km away from the temple. Buses and vehicles are parked on the road as if no one else needs to pass through. The importance of Bawe Mata is significant, but people don't seem to value it. The situation for the elderly is especially dire. The line stretched from outside the shop to the entire garden area, almost reaching the temple premises. The management's boys were only letting VIPs and acquaintances enter while disregarding the common public. They were chatting and making jokes, showing no reverence. It was impossible for elderly parents to stand in line for 3-4 hours. There were no seating arrangements or facilities for waiting. Quick entry was only for VIPs. After waiting in line for 2 hours, we finally got a chance to enter the temple, but it felt like a crowded market. We couldn't properly focus on the darshan. My daughter and mother were struggling in the crowd. Meeting the priests inside, at least 50 people were having darshan together, and due to the crowd, we couldn't focus properly. My 10-year-old daughter and mother were almost crushed in the crowd. I want to ask the management if the temple is only for people from Jammu or if people come from far away for darshan too. And if they can't have darshan, what's the point? If there's any casualty or injury in the crowd, who will be responsible? There was no chance of standing in line for prasad; the line was so long it didn't move even by evening. The temple is beautiful, and there's spirituality, but if people leave with a bad mood, what's the use? The monkeys there have a different reign. They make people unhappy. Those who have upper-hand influence are treated differently. They push people aside after overcrowding. If they manage the crowd properly and let 4-5 people enter in an organized manner, everyone will get a chance for darshan.

Then we went to the aquarium. They asked for Rs. 30 per person for a ticket and an additional Rs. 20 per person for clicking photos with a mobile. I don't understand why they charged extra for clicking photos when everyone has their own mobile. When I questioned, they started arguing.

Overall, it was a very bad experience due to poor management....
