Learn moreTopchanchi Dam, constructed by the British in 1924 and completed on November 15, 1924, under the supervision of Sir Henry Wheeler, is a remarkable blend of historical significance and natural beauty nestled in the Dhanbad district of Jharkhand. This man-made reservoir, formed by damming a stream at Rajdhato under the Jharia Water Board, spans 214 acres and continues to serve as a vital water supply source for Dhanbad and its suburbs, while also being a captivating tourist destination.Historical and Architectural Significance The dam stands as a testament to British engineering prowess, built primarily to harness water from streams flowing down the Parasnath Hills for Jharia’s water supply.
