We are a group of twelve. We drive from Shimoga, and reach Jog. The official viewing point of Jog. There is lots of construction activity in progress. In another year, it may be a different place altogether, with better viewing of the majestic falls. But the condition of roads have to improve. It is a sunny day with mild misty drizzle. We are sure we will see Jog in full force. After all, there have been heavy rains this season. Water is aplenty! We look around for a warm tea before the big view. The only hotel around is busy with lunch. We try booking the veg lunch. But alas, not available. Some good soul suggests a kilometre down, you could be lucky with booking lunch in a small shack named Brahmin hotel. We are lucky. We get back to the viewing stretch. It is so misty. The water splashing down rises into a mist. Besides, there is a dark moving cloud. There is just water everywhere, but no Jog to be seen! The photographers tell us that it is not a lucky day for us. Instead, they offer to give our picture with a photoshopped mighty image of the Jog in the background. We are unmoved, we wait for our Luck God to smile. There ... the clouds are moving. There is the Jog hiding behind. We see a small portion of the gushing Jog. Wow! As humans, we believe the hidden Jog is even more enchanting. But a fresh moving cloud hides it. Someone curses the day, someone curses the view point ...perhaps, everything other than oneself!! After an hour of such hide and seek, we give up. Why is Jog hiding? We tell our driver that we saw the might of Jog in glimpses, not in its entirety. Unconcerned, he drives us back after a hearty Brahmins lunch. The driver suddenly takes a detour from our return Google Map route. Has he lost his way? We wonder. We leave it to him, he should know the way! He suddenly stops at one place down the road. He smiles and tells us, "Now go and see". The pessimists amongst us feel it wouldn't be worth it. Sleep off in the bus! There is a tea shop nearby; that settled it. We walk into the Government Circuit House. Thankfully no VVIPs are around, and so we walk down, by the side to the Jog viewing point. We hear the sound of gushing water. We have heard the same thing earlier, so it must be the same. We murmur. There is a small viewing point ahead and we move towards it. As we climb the steps, there is this thundering sound of the Jog falls. Then we see it all. The wide angle view of the full majesty of the Jog Falls. Wow! What a sight! The seen and forgotten scene from the movie Mackenna's Gold suddenly reveals itself!! The glistening waters of Jog gushing down from the hills at several places, against a setting Sun. Wow! This is what we have been longing to see! Jog at its best on a September evening. This is grandeur at its best. Photographs and videos don't grab the full beauty, which only our eyes can capture. As we return, there are smiles everywhere. We have seen Jog! In its entirety....
