amazing drive on a rainy day to Kailashagiri, with kids in tow, waking up early to a heavy clouded day, perfect one for the drive. Hit the hoskote toll plaza with line of 10+ cars in each lane, the fasttag is really being useless for wait times (does save the handling notes/change only). Interestingly there is another toll plaza before Chintamani that only takes cash, with pot-holed roads, so no idea why toll is being charged. Anyways google maps take to right to the place, and if you want to enjoy the peace, do reach early. Road is pretty good, except the last 4-5 km. We saw the priest coming little before 11, when we were returning – that gives you the idea how early to reach to enjoy. At 9am we had the whole place to ourselves, ample parking space. Nothing much to do except sitting there and enjoying the scenery, peace and great clean chill air. Now, if you are the adventurous types and have a 4x4 there is a wide-enough dirt track just before the parking lot which goes several km up – did see couple of 4x4 come down, and many bikes. Anyways being the hiking types, and not having much physical exercise from the lockdown, all of us decided to walk for an hour uphill and enjoy the awesome climate, clean air and amazing views and returned just in time to see the crowds building up. The dirt road takes you to Ambaji durga. Edit Jan'25 - dirt road is wide enough and motorable by 2WD cars also, to the beautiful Anjaneya temple about 4-5km from starting point (though if you want to enjoy the scenery you can walk the distance). From the Temple you can see the fort (Durg/ Durga) at the top of the hill, its 20min walk half on dirt road and half stairs/rocks - but the views from top are mesmerizing.

October 2025 The road from Bangalore to about 4 km before Kailashagiri is excellent and smooth to drive. The last 4 km stretch leading up to the temple is still under construction — mostly mud road and slightly inclined — but accessible for all types of vehicles with a bit of care. Parking is available near the temple (₹20 for cars), though it is not yet organized properly. The temple itself is truly mesmerizing — a man-made cave temple carved out of a massive single monolith. Inside, you’ll find idols of Lord Ganesha, Chaturmukhi Shiva Linga, and Goddess Jagdamba. The craftsmanship and scale are remarkable, making it a must-visit for architecture and spirituality lovers alike. Currently, there are no eateries or restrooms nearby, so it’s best to carry your own snacks and water. Elderly visitors may find the last stretch a bit challenging until the area is fully developed. This spot is about 80 km from Bangalore, making it perfect for a peaceful one-day getaway. Important: Around 4 km further uphill from this temple lies another fascinating location featuring Anjaneya, Durga, and Shiva temples on a scenic hilltop. However, the route is quite rough and steep — at present, only experienced drivers should attempt it. I took a local jeep (available for hire near the site), but availability might vary on other days. We got Prasada too. Overall, a highly recommended and serene day trip destination that’s still developing but already beautiful and spiritually uplifting. Must visit and please keep it clean.

Kailasagiri Hills, Kavalaganahalli – A Quick and Scenic Getaway Kailasagiri Hills in Kavalaganahalli is a great spot for a short and refreshing visit, especially for those who enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and scenic views. The location is easily accessible with well-maintained roads, and the drive offers a mini ghat-road experience, making it enjoyable for those who love driving. One of the highlights of this place is the short trek of about five minutes to reach the exact viewpoint. The path is not too difficult, but wearing sports shoes is recommended for better grip and comfort. The view from the top is quite serene, providing a nice escape from city life. Entry to the place is free, which is a bonus, but there is a parking fee of ₹20. However, visitors should keep in mind that there are no proper snack shops available nearby. It’s advisable to carry your own water and refreshments, especially if you plan to spend some time enjoying the view. While Kailasagiri Hills is a pleasant spot, it’s best to avoid visiting during the peak summer months as the heat can make the experience uncomfortable. Early mornings or late evenings would be the best time to visit for pleasant weather and a beautiful view. Overall, Kailasagiri Hills is a simple yet refreshing destination for a quick visit, ideal for nature lovers and those looking for a short drive with a touch of adventure.
