The presiding goddess of the Karnataka city of Ballari is known as Ballari Kanaka Durgamma. The name of this Goddess is thought to have inspired the name of the city.

It is said that Arjuna built the shrine to honour Goddess Durga. After ascending a winding ghat path to get to the temple, there are a few steps to climb in order to get to the main temple. The localites of Bellary and worshippers regard the large moorthi of Goddess Durga inside to be extremely potent and assert that she grants all of your wishes because it is Svayambhu (self manifested).

The goddess Durga's eight-armed manifestation known as the "moorthi" is the pinnacle of beauty as she stands above the demon Mahishashura and pierces him with her trident. Some followers view taking a dip in the Krishna River as a sacred practise.

Festival: The temple is very important spiritually and draws many visitors all year long, but especially during the Navaratris and Dusshera, which gathers tens of thousands of worshippers. Durgamma Sidi is another great festival observed here.

Temple Hours: 5.30 AM to 8.45 PM.

Crowd: Temple is usually crowded on Tuesdays and Fridays. Avail a Kumkumarchane ticket of Rs.100 and that will allow 2 people for a special quick darshan of goddess.

Must visit if you...

The Kanaka Durgamma Temple in Bellary is a must-visit for anyone seeking a blend of spirituality and history. Located on a hilltop, the temple offers a breathtaking view of the city and its surrounding landscape, making the journey up to the temple truly rewarding. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durgamma, and the atmosphere is filled with devotion and peace. The temple’s architecture is simple yet elegant, with intricate designs that showcase the rich cultural heritage of the region. The priest conducts the rituals with great reverence, and the devotees’ spiritual energy adds to the temple’s sanctity. The temple is well-maintained, and the serene environment makes it a great place for reflection and prayer. One of the highlights is the panoramic view from the hill, which adds to the temple’s charm. The experience of visiting Kanaka Durgamma Temple is both spiritually uplifting and visually captivating. I highly recommend visiting this temple to feel the positive energy and connect with the divine.
