Kurudumale Ganesha Temple 🙏🙏

Location: Mulbagal, Kolar district, Karnataka.

To begin with it's not just an idol, it's a massive ( 13 and a half foot ) Saligrama Ganesh idol. An architectural marvel whose immense size will take your breath away, the temple’s infamous idol is said to be continuously growing. The temple provides one with a feeling of tranquility and peace, the power and positivity of the Lord Ganesha that radiates, can be felt by everyone.

History:

This idol is being worshipped from past four yugas. (the Krita Yuga, the Treta Yuga, the Dvapara Yuga and finally the Kali Yuga)

  1. The idol of Ganesha in the temple is believed to have been installed by the trimurthis -Brahma – Vishnu – Maheshwara. During the Satya Yuga, which is the first mythological era, with this boon Tripurasura defeated all the kings of the earth, and all the gods of the heaven. He had two sons he gave the kingdom of lord bramha to one son and the kingdom of lord Vishnu to the other son. Narada advised all the gods to pray ganesha. Ganesha appeared before the gods and said that only lord shankara can defeat tripurasura. After that ganesha went to tripurasura in guise of a Brahmin. He said to tripurasura that ‘ O King iam the master of 64 arts. Tripurasura said that show me your arts if iam pleased with your arts I will give you what ever you want.

Ganesha said that I will give you three planes through which you can go any where in the world and you can fulfill any desire. Only lord parmeshwara can destroy them. With this tirpurasura became very pleased and asked Ganesha to ask him any thing in the world. Ganesha asked the idol of chintamani which was with lord shiva. Shiva refused to give that idol to tripurasura, and there started a war between lord shiva and tripurasura. Lord Shiva destroyed all the three buildings , planes with a single arrow. This was the reason the Gods installed the Ganesha idol in Kurudumale. They also conducted a Pooja and offered prayers to the deity.

  1. In Treta Yuga, Lord Rama first worshipped this same Ganesha idol before fighting Ravana.

  2. In Dawapara yuga, Sri Krishna worshiped this Ganesha in order to get rid of shamantha kamaniya's curse. The spell is removed and Krishna is absolved of his curse. In fact, this is the same temple where Pandavas visited before they went to war with Kuravas, the former emerge victorious and regains their kingdom!

  3. In Kaliyuga, Krishna Devaraya of vijayanagara dynasty understood its importance after lord ganesh show up in his dreams and requested a temple to be built around the idol with meticulous details depicting its importance.

Originally under the rule of the Chola’s the temple area later came under the boundary of the Vijaynagara Kingdom. There are inscriptions on the temple wall that also lend evidence to the fact that Kurudumale Ganesha Temple was built during the rule of the Vijaynagara Kings. It was the mighty King Krishnadevaraya that built the temple. It is said that the huge Ganshea idol was placed in a field on the hill in Kurudumale and for very long was worshipped in...

Kurudumale Ganesha Temple is located at Mulbagal in Kolar district of Karnataka. The temple is just 10 km from the town of Mulbagal on Srinivasapura road.

One of the largest idols, which is of 13 and a half feet Ganesha idol is enshrined inside the Kurudumale Ganesha Temple. It is chiseled out of a huge monolithic 'Saligrama Shila' and is supposed to be the tallest in the world.(among Saligrama Shila carvings). It is Said to be very powerful. The deity is visited by people before starting a new job or a new phase of their life.

It is believed that if a person with a pure heart asks for something from this grand idol, they will get what they want and attain higher levels of success. As Ganesha is considered the “Vighnaharta”, he will remove all your obstacles. The temple gives you a sensation of peace and tranquility, the strength and positivity of the radiating Lord Ganesha can be felt by all.

The installation of the idol was done by the Trimurti and was worshipped in an open field. Hence The Vinayaka is supposed to have been there since time immemorial. Also known as Kotdari. However the temple structure is of Vijayanagar period and hence it is majestic and simple. The greatest thing about the idol is that it is one of the finest idols you will ever see. It is very very beautiful. You can appreciate its beauty better when you see it without any Alankara. Lord Shiva had worshipped here before the Samhara Kaand of Demon Tripurasura. Lord Ram and Lakshman before killing Raavan. Pandavas had also worshipped here before the battle of Kurukshetra. And, Lord Krishna had also worshipped here to ward off the disgrace on his character as he was accused of stealing Shamantaka Mani. Even till date many Gods still visit this place.

**Do visit...

Kurudumale, a place in the Mulbagal taluk, Kolar district of Karnataka state, India. It is located about 10 km from the mulubagal town, northerly. The giant, thirteen and a half foot sculpture of kurudumale Ganesha and the Someshwara temple of lord Shiva attract thousands of visitors from the surrounding states. This place was believed to be the place where Devas would descend from the heavens for recreation on earth.

The Ganesha temple is considered to be very powerful. Many believers start new jobs or new work only after taking the blessing of Lord Ganesha.

There is another temple dedicated to Shivacalled the Someshwara temple which is also situated in Kurudumale. The interesting thing about this temple is that it is built of a rock without any foundations. Another interesting thing is the architectural style of the temple; this temple is considered to be older than the Ganesha temple and was built during the Cholas period. Half of the temple has different style of carving, believed to have been done by artist Jakanachari and the other half is believed to have been carved by his son Dankanachari. The part of the temple supposedly built by Dankana's has statues and carvings which are more intricate and sophisticated. Ganesha temple in Kurudumale, situated on the same road as that of Someshwara temple, but here a huge Ganesha idol is being worshipped from ages unknown. It is said that the Ganesha statue was being worshipped in an open field, until Krishnadevaraya built a temple around it. Absolute divine vibe !! 😇 Ganesh deity is so magnificent and pure bliss standing in front of idol 🙏 Main monolithic idol is 12 feet long and unique in its kind, This historical temple has great stories behind it and it is well connected by road. Temple is under state treasure department and sad to see historical temples under state dept administration, Because many temples which are under state dept are lack of basic facilities and State govt undertake temples only for the sake of revenue it generates and spend most of this money in elsewhere, they don't even bothered to provide some basic facilities like free drinking water, free food or Prasad, shelters, rest rooms, parking space for piligrims etc. At the same time temples run by private trust or locally private administraton are providing necessary arrangements for its piligrins even when revenue is not good and most of these services are done by charities of good heart piligrims. Best example is Chennakeshava temple near by to this Ganesh temple. Notes: 1. Small village and perfect one day outing place for bengalureans, Please make sure you carry your essentials and no shops are available for food and liquids since its located in small village and you can see only small shops. 2. Around 15 mins is required to reach from Bengaluru-Chittoor highway, google map is perfect and leads to temple without any deviation or confusions. 3. Adequate parking space may gets over crowded on weekends and holidays.

The 12 foot idol is the main attraction here. The idol of Ganesha in the temple is believed to have been installed by the trimurthis -Brahma – The God of creation, Vishnu. Very calm and peaceful atmosphere. Sufficient parking is available. Also the road is in good condition. There are inscriptions on the temple wall that also lend evidence to the fact that Kurudumale Ganesha Temple was built during the rule of the Vijaynagara Kings. The inscriptions are all in Tamil and some even date back to the 13th century during the rule of the Hoysala Kings. Lord Ganesha is made from Saligrama (a type of fossilised rock) and remained in the open space until Krishnadevaraya decided to build a temple with a roof.
