One of the most beautiful hillocks in the Ramanagara range. An easy day hike for beginners, or those looking to get back their lost fitness. Winter is the best time to be here, as a sunny cloudless sky gives you beautiful panoramic views of the entire Ramanagara range of hills. One can easily see Talavadi Betta and Thimappana Betta in the distance. The twin hills stand out majestically amongst the litter of other hills and green patches on the ground.
The place is regulated by the forest department and one has to pay a parking and entry fee to get inside. There is ample parking space, which is 600 meters from the entry gate. Make sure you go by geared bike or car as the road to the parking is bad. The trail is a mix of well constructed staircase and natural trekking trails with dense shrubbery. The last section is very steep and the officials have thoughtfully installed a staircase so that one can get to the top. However, you have to take it one at a time, and its better to wait for the folks coming down before starting your ascent up. Its extremely steep and one has to have both hands on the handrails if they are trekking newbies, or haven't worn the appropriate footwear.
The view of the majestic rock formation on the opposite hill coupled with the greenish pond below and blue sky above is too good to miss out on. You don't have to take the staircase to get this view as it comes somewhere during the middle of the trek. But the view at the top is also too good to pass out on as you get a panoramic view of the entire range with a lot of known peaks visible from above.
For the experience trekker this is likely to be a 10 minute hike from the parking to the peak. So its better you combine this with another hill in the same range, after having travelled so far from the...
Read moreGreat trekking place. I will reckon it easy only. Few tricks Many bloggers / reviewers suggest that the last phase is 90 degrees and very risky, which I personally don't feel is that steep and risky. So, don't go with a prejudiced mindset. Whether you are small or elderly, thin or fat, light weight or heavy weight, it really doesn't matter. I saw here a 7 year child climbing up confidently and a very obese person as well do the same. Those who are regular trekkers find no difficulties here. Those who are beginners, just concentrate on one step at a time and don't look up or down while on the staircase (iron made) - keep your focus on each step and within 5 minutes you cross the staircase and reach at the top. Do not stop intermittently. We didn't find any monkeys here, so I would recommend you to carry food and drinks and enjoy at the top. Do not litter or smoke or drink alcohol are the instructions provided by Karnataka tourism police personnel atop. If you want to have more adventure in this trek, I would recommend u to follow the right side board near temple, where there is a pond, which mentions 700 over it. Please excuse me about the description on this board (as it is written in local language, I am not sure what the board reads). You can go to the base of the mountain near to the entry gate by descending down from here. You will also find mango farm (aamrai) from where you have to go towards left. Continue till you find the forest officer check post and then again go from left of this post to reach the tar road near entry gate.
Please note: Entry starts only at 9 am, so no need to start at 4 am or 5 am from Bangalore. From central Bangalore, it took us 2 hours to reach at the Ramadevaraya betta gate. So, u can enjoy extended sleep when you plan...
Read moreWent on a hike with my wife and daughter during the Diwali holiday. It was a good hike.
~ Sanctuary opens it's gate at 9am ~ There is a ticket counter at the entrance with a fee of 20 per adult and 10 per kid and with a nominal vehicle entry fee one may enter the sanctuary ~ If you are looking for a longer hike then start walking from this post and one of your teammates can drive your vehicle up to the parking space. Do not park the vehicles near the entry point as the local kids may damage them. ~ Washrooms are available near parking and also on top. ~ Do not have great expectations about sighting a lot of birds as it is a spread out area and the wait may be more ~ We did spot Rufous Treepie, lot of sunbirds and munias around with regular visitors like White Cheek Barbets, Green Barbets, Lotens, Bulbuls and so on.. ~ Once you have made it to the end of steps you will find 3 trails. Don't take the left one - it's a dead end. One in front goes towards the Anjaneya temple it's a must to get the proper hike feeling and the stones are a bit slippery here and make sure you go to the end of the trail before heading back. Once you are back at the junction take the last trail towards the peak. The last stretch is a bit tricky as it is carved through the rock. There are railings to support and these are life saving tools at the point. ~ Enjoy the view of the thick vegetation under your feet! Make sure you take a look of all the sides from top. You can see a lot of familiar hills including Handi Gundi if you are a regular for hikes. ~ Once back near the parking do visit the information center which provides information about flora and fauna of the place. ~ Keep in mind there are no stalls to sell food & beverages.
It's a worthy hike near...
