Based on the principles of Basavanna the mutt was run by Sri Shivakumar Swamiji, Kayaka Jeevi (A Leading personality) without any sort of support from media, political power, advertisement and international funding. Today as well the Mutt is running under the same principles.
During the initial days he use to go around the villages by walk or using horses and beg for Davasa and Dhanya (Lentils, Rice etc) and was running the Ashram.
He had a lot of kindness towards the farmers and would ask about the rain and growth of davasa and dhanya with them on regular basis. He lead this by example of Saptha Sutras and taught others as well to lead this for the growth of Ashram.
He was well known as “Trivida Dasohi” due to his contribution towards Gnana Dasoha, Anna Dasoha and Sneha Dasoha.
He was also well known as “Nededaduva Devaru” (Walking God- Shiva), “Kayaka Yogi” and “Pavada Purusha”.
Siddaganga Mutt Seer Shivakumara Swamiji
Dr. Shivakumara Swamiji was born in a village known as Veerapura in Magadi Taluk of Bangalore District. He is one out of the 13 sons of Patel Honnegowda and Gangamma and born on 1908 April 1st in Bramhi Mahoortha.
At the age of 5 years one of the Palm reading Guruji saw his palm and said he will cherish as a great guru and will solve many of poor people problems and serve for the nations growth. He was also a Shathaayushigalu.
Karnataka Government recognized swamiji as “Shathamanada Purusha” and respected with an award of “Karnataka Ratna” for the service provided to the nation.
His daily rituals start early in the morning and a typical day was like below
Wake up early morning 2 AM and taking bath and doing Pooja for almost 2-3 hours
Going to office for checking files, reading news papers
Group prayer at 6.30 AM in the morning along with Mutt students
Meeting visitors in the office
Going to events, functions and to invited homes for any special occasions
