The Devi temple is one the important sites of this Fort. Temple was closed as it was almost 11:45 when i reached the temple. Got to know temple is open 3 days a week and wednesday is one of them.
Shri Ekanatheshwari Devi is the Family deity ( Kula Devi) of the Nayakar Rajas. Prayers are still offered even in present times at this temple. Out of 12 temples in the fort, came to know that prayers are only offered at 3-4 temples. Yearly Jaathre (festivities) which was conducted to honor Goddess is now conducted at a nearby district and not at the temple premises as the Fort site is now under ASI(Archaelogical Society of India) control to preserve everthing at this fort which is a National monument.
The temple dedicated to Devi has a Dwaram (Tall Arch gate) and a Dwaja Sthambham (Main Pillar) at the front. A person would climb up this Stambham to light lamp at the top. Oil contributed by Praje(citizens) at the Oil Tank was used for lighting the lamp at the Dwaja Stambham.
The entry passage to temple is via a small set of stairs from the left side which is quite different as compared to many temples where stairs/steps are constructed in the middle directly leading to temple. The temple has a nice open area next to it where people can sit on long stone seats, enjoy fresh air and quiet nature or enjoy viewing part of the fort.
Some small renovation work was being done when I visited here last wednesday (Jan...
