Talakadu Shri Maraleshwara Swamy Temple is one of the five ancient Pancha Linga temples dedicated to Lord Shiva in the sacred town of Talakadu. Each of these temples is aligned with a unique cosmic significance, and Maraleshwara Swamy Temple is considered the guardian deity of the area.
I visited this temple as part of the KSRTC Gaganachukki package from Bangalore, and it was a memorable experience. The guide explained the deep historical and spiritual roots of the region, especially the connection with the Mysore Wodeyar kings, Chamundi Hills, and the famous curse of Queen Alamelamma, which is said to have buried these temples in sand centuries ago.
Shri Maraleshwara Swamy Temple is believed to be the earliest among the Pancha Linga, and though much of the temple remains buried or filled with sand, what is visible reveals detailed stonework and a serene aura. Some shrines still need to be dug out annually for special rituals.
The atmosphere is calm and spiritual, with a sense of mystery all around. Definitely worth visiting for anyone interested in history, mythology, and ancient temple...

None of the trail or temple areas are disabled friendly with zero wheelchair accessibility. Watch your head for low ceiling at entrance. Best to bring your own reusable bottles for water etc. And not buy indiscriminate plastic bottles which would eventually end up in landfills nearby this serene river...

They are truly fascinating and reveal the engineering brilliance of ancient Indians. These temples also incorporate astronomical characteristics.
