Good Parking arrangement at site. Water insufficient in the river. Crowd control over the bridge was not effective. They should have permitted moving crowd by controlling exit way also. Should not allow devotees to stay back at Thiruvanchira and adjascent area for more time. This caused unnecessary delay for devotees to reach the shrine at Akkare Kottiyoor. They waited for long hours this time on and off the bridge area.Specially during heavy rush. Volunteers should move the crowd till exit point. Since the shrine is in open space it can contain any no of devotees. Only thing proper control is reqd to direct the devotees. Adopt Thirupathy model Darshan, by cmpelling devotees to move faster.

Kottiyoor Temple is one of the oldest temples in Kerala.  Located in Kannur district and is about 50 km from another famous temple in Wayanad; Thirunelly Mahavishnu Temple. We drive from Thirunelly to visit and have a blessed darshan at Kottiyoor. Actually, there are two temples in Kottiyoor, namely; Akkare Kottiyoor and Ikkara Kottiyoor on either side of Bavali river.  Akkare Kottiyur opens only during the Kottiyoor Vaisakha Maholsavam festival only (May-June). Ikkara Temple opens for all and has regular poojas and rituals. The settings of Akkara Kottiyoor is so beautiful that we want to come back again to be present during the Vaisakha Moholsavam in May-June 2024. A must visit temple.

Locally known as Ikkare Kottiyoor temple, this is believed to be the spot of ancient Dakshayaga. The Shiva Linga that is worshipped in the temple is believed to have been discovered, rather than created by human hands, and is therefore known as Swayambhu. The temple was built after the Swayambhu lingam was found. The important festival of the temple, Vaisakha Maholsavam, falls during the months of May-June and is celebrated for 28 days. The Akkare Kottiyoor temple is opened only during this time.

The place where God and Nature merge. It is a calm and peaceful place where you can pray along with nature's presence. This place is also known as southern Kashi because it was the largest temple in South India where Shiva devotees come together for the Vishakha festival. This is the place where Dhakshayaga occurred. Apart from that on this yaga Shiva lost his better half Sathi Devi and he became unstoppable. Then Shiva sends his 'Angry' as a Avathara called Rudhran to kill Dhaksha. He chopped Dhaksha head. Then later Shiva controls his Anger and replaces Dhaksha head with a goat head and gives him a second chance. For this remember Vaishaka uthsav...
