According to tradition, Sastha was once Chathan. Sastha was revered by the Dravidians and tribal people who owned this territory before the arrival of the Aaryans. Many devotees believe that just as Ayyanar became Ayyan, then Ayyappan, and finally Ayyappa Swami, so the Lord who declared, guarded, and guided dharma became Dharmasastha, and his boyhood exploits are what we witness now as the wonders accomplished by Kuttichathan or Balasasthavu. Read moreThis temple is nothing but a scam, a total scam. I visited along with my brother, and here’s what I observed:
Exorbitant Charges: Archana starts only at 101 there is no option below that. For “Kalpana,” they charged 501 per person, and since we both did it, we ended up paying 1002.
Misleading Rituals: At exactly 1 PM, a person dressed with noisy ornaments came out and started chanting/blabbering in a way only they seemed to understand. They claimed I had “dosham” and that my kudumba deivam was angry with me. Ironically, their predictions were completely wrong they said my father and brother weren’t in good terms, when in reality, it’s me and my father who aren’t.
Pressure for Payments: They suggested we perform vadivada to clear the dosham mine costing 15,000 and my brother’s 5,000. This shows how they manipulate people into spending huge sums under fear.
Target Audience: I noticed there were hardly any Malayalees, despite it being in Kerala. The priests were deliberately talking in Tamil, clearly targeting people from Tamil Nadu and Telugu states.
Artificial “Spiritual” Setup: The temple compound had no trees, leaving the ground scorching hot for barefoot visitors. Inside, they had exotic pigeons trained to create a “spiritual vibe,” which felt fake and staged.
Show of Wealth: The so-called Namboodiris (priests) were wearing heavy gold chains, which was off-putting and clearly not in line with genuine spiritual service.
Only Positive: The annadanam (free meal) was genuinely good. For 1000, we all had satisfying food that was the only good part of the visit.
Overall: This temple thrives on exploiting innocent devotees’ fears by labeling everything as “dosham” and demanding hefty amounts for remedies. People should be very cautious before visiting. The only decent aspect was the food, but otherwise, the entire experience felt like a...
