โญโญโญโญโญ A Beautiful Pilgrimage for Every 'Khasak' Lover
My visit to the O. V. Vijayan Memorial was not just a trip; it was a profound and nostalgic pilgrimage. Having first read the legendary novel "The Legends of Khasak" back in 1990, this place held a mythical status in my mind for over three decades. Finally visiting felt like stepping directly into the pages of the book.
The moment I arrived, I was transported back to my school days, vividly remembering the worlds Vijayan's words created for me as a young reader. The memorial is set in the very landscape that inspired the fictional village of Khasak, and the connection is palpable.
Highlights of the Visit:
The Arabic Pond: Seeing the tranquil waters of the Arabic Pond was surreal. This isn't just a water body; it's a central character in the novel. Standing there, watching the light dance on the water, I could almost feel the presence of Ravi, the protagonist, and the spiritual aura of the place.
The Vazhiyambalam (Wayside Banyan Tree):This was incredibly moving. This is the iconic spot where Ravi is said to have disembarked from the bus, marking the beginning of his journey in Koomankavu. To stand under the shade of that very tree, a silent witness to so much of the story, was a powerful and almost cinematic experience.
Itโs amazing how a fictional place can feel so real. The memorial and its surroundings are beautifully maintained, allowing the magic of Vijayan's era to come alive. Itโs a testament to the power of literature and the care taken to preserve this cultural landmark.
A must-visit for any literature enthusiast, fan of Malayalam literature, or anyone who wants to experience the unique magic where a fictional world and reality beautifully converge. Well maintained and absolutely worth the journey. Excellent work by those preserving...

The memorial is tastefully designed, with a serene and peaceful ambiance that reflects the writer's love for nature. The exhibits showcase Vijayan's life and work, including his cartoons, writings.
What struck me most was the attention to detail and the love with which the memorial has been curated. It's clear that the creators were driven by a passion to preserve Vijayan's legacy and share it with future generations.
The memorial also offers a glimpse into Vijayan's simple yet profound philosophy of life, which is deeply inspiring. The surrounding gardens and natural scenery only add to the memorial's beauty and tranquility.
The OV Vijayan Memorial is a must-visit for literature lovers, writers, and anyone interested in Kerala's cultural heritage. It's a place where you can connect with the writer's spirit and find inspiration in his work.
