My Visit to the Tea Museum in Munnar
Last week, I had the opportunity to visit the Tea Museum in Munnar, Kerala. It was a fascinating experience that gave me a glimpse into the history and culture of tea production in India. Here are some of the highlights of my visit.
The Tea Museum is located in the Nallathanni Estate of Tata Tea, which is one of the largest tea plantations in the world. The museum is housed in a heritage building that dates back to the 1880s. The museum showcases various aspects of tea processing, such as the machinery, tools, photographs, and artifacts that were used in the past and present.
One of the most interesting exhibits in the museum is the tea tasting session, where visitors can sample different varieties of tea and learn about their characteristics and flavors. I enjoyed trying out different types of tea, such as black, green, white, oolong, and herbal. I also learned about the health benefits of tea and how to brew it properly.
Another exhibit that caught my attention was the demonstration of tea plucking by women workers. They showed us how they skillfully pluck the tender leaves from the tea bushes using their fingers and baskets. They also explained how they sort and grade the leaves according to their quality and size. It was amazing to see how much work and care goes into producing a cup of tea.
The museum also has a souvenir shop where visitors can buy various tea products and souvenirs, such as tea bags, tea pots, cups, mugs, books, postcards, and magnets. I bought some tea bags and a book on tea history as a souvenir of my visit.
