When people think of Kolkata’s railway stations, Howrah and Sealdah immediately steal the limelight. But lurking in the northeastern part of the city, the Kolkata Railway Station (erstwhile Chitpur Station) is the underrated sibling that deserves more attention. What’s Special About Kolkata Railway Station? 1. Youngest but Largest – Inaugurated in 2006, this is Kolkata’s newest major railway hub, and surprisingly, it is the biggest station in the city in terms of area. Yes, even bigger than Howrah and Sealdah! 2. Gateway to the North-East – This station is the launchpad for trains heading to Assam, Tripura, and other northeastern states, making it crucial for travelers heading toward the beautiful yet less-explored gems of India. 3. Less Chaos, More Space – Unlike the madness of Howrah and Sealdah, Kolkata Railway Station is less crowded and offers a comparatively stress-free travel experience. No elbow fights at ticket counters! 4. Modern & Well-Planned – The station boasts wide platforms, escalators, and modern amenities, making it a breath of fresh air compared to some of its older, more congested counterparts. The Flip Side? - The station is still not as well-connected to the city's public transport as Sealdah or Howrah. Reaching it requires a bit of planning (or a very patient Uber driver). - Food options are limited, so carry your own snacks unless you enjoy train-station culinary adventures. Final Verdict? Kolkata Railway Station is like that introverted genius cousin who stays out of the spotlight but quietly does its job exceptionally well. If you’re catching a train from here, consider yourself lucky — you just avoided Kolkata’s railway jungle and still got a seat to the northeast!

This railway station is situated in Chitpur near R.G KAR Hospital. It has only 5 platforms. Local trains are available every 10 minutes. Super fast and express trains also depart from here. Ramp facility is available. Its very spacious and less crowded. Prepaid taxi, ola and uber is available just outside the station. Few government buses are available. No Wi-Fi is available. Cafeteria and restaurant is available on platform no 1. Very less crowded than compared to Howrah and Sealdah. Just 10 15 minutes walking distance from...
