The historical importance of Muttom Lighthouse adds another layer of intrigue to the visit. Built during the colonial era, the lighthouse has stood the test of time and witnessed the changing tides of history.
A white painted 20 m high octagonal stone masonry tower was erected on the Muttom hillock and the light was commissioned in September 1875. For improvement of light, a 14.6 meters high new stone tower with black and white horizontal bands was erected in the same position and the light started functioning from it on 1st January 1883.
As you climb the spiral staircase to reach the top of the lighthouse, you are rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding coastline and the vast expanse of the sea.
