Perched majestically on a rocky cliff overlooking the Arabian Sea, Muttom point Light house stands as a beacon of both guidance and historical significance in Nagercoil. It is located at 17 Km from Nagercoil 32 Km Kanyakumari, and 73 Km Thiruvananthapuram. The historical importance of Muttom Lighthouse adds another layer of intrigue to the visit. Built during the colonial era, the lighthouse has stood the test of time and witnessed the changing tides of history. A white painted 20 m high octagonal stone masonry tower was erected on the Muttom hillock and the light was commissioned in September 1875. For improvement of light, a 14.6 meters high new stone tower with black and white horizontal bands was erected in the same position and the light started functioning from it on 1st January 1883. As you climb the spiral staircase to reach the top of the lighthouse, you are rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding coastline and the vast expanse of the sea. Directorate of Lighthouses and Lightships established a Heritage Lighthouse Maritime Museum at Muttom point in 2017. The museum is set to pass valuable information about the history of navigation, trade and evolution of lights and lighthouses. Don't miss the opportunity to climb to the top, gaze out at the horizon, and immerse yourself in the maritime magic of Muttom Lighthouse. Ticket fare : 10/- for a Child , 20/- for an Adult, 25/- for the camera

Muttom Point Lighthouse is located above at 17Km from Nagercoil 32 Km Kanyakumari, and 73 Km Thiruvananthapuram. Chola, Chera and Pandya, the three important Dynasties those ruled south India for a long time had proved their sovereignty in maritime trade. The land required for the construction of lighthouse was given by Travancore Kingdom free of cost. The museum is set to pass valuable information about the history of navigation, trade and evolution of lights and lighthouses. While replicas of Sailing ships, steamers, Naval and Coast guard ships provide information about the vessels in the past, different types of illuminants used in lighthouses from Wick lamps to LED lights will teach about the evolution of lamps.

Muttom is a village in the Kanyakumari District and it is a well known for beautiful beach with some rocks and caves. Muttom is one of the famous fishing villages, located 16 km from Nagercoil. There is a lighthouse which was constructed by British India. The lighthouse, though near the sea, is situated 110 ft above sea level. The structure was built when India was part of the British Empire until 1947. Rs.10 entry ticket and can go top of the light house from where we can see the entire Muttom Sea and villages It was constructed to avoid ships collision with muthala Parai ( crocodile rock ) which few distance away from Muttom In sea ..earlier many ship’s collided in that rock and to Avoid it this light house was built Also there is a museum inside which shows various countries ships , lighthouse construction, how lamps n lights are used …very much informative Then they do have Audio video theatre and show the lighthouse history and various lighthouse across india ….must watch one 👍
