Fairly well maintained and clean, it is indeed quite a steep climb up the spiral, especially at the final top end with the gap narrowing down, but totally worth the effort. Plus size friends may be a bit disappointed. Hard to imagine how long back this was built (1885) and the only colonial structure of the islands in its time. Interestingly, the petroleum vapour burners of the bygone era are still kept as showpieces. The powerful light flashes every quarter of a minute. Read moreA visit to the Lighthouse is one of the attractions at Minicoy island. The lighthouse is situated near the southern end of the island is about 50 meters in height and is functional. There is a small fee of Rs. 20 for carrying camera or mobile phone with camera inside. At a given time only about 10-15 persons can climb the spiral stairs. It can be a tough climb for older persons and those with medical conditions. The last flight of stairs is quite steep to climb. Once at the top the the climbing ordeal is forgotten as we get a 360 degree view of the Minicoy island and the sea surrounding it.
