Minicoy Island is one of the oldest lighthouses in Lakshadweep. Standing tall at 300 feet, the view from the top is absolutely mesmerizing.

It is one of the must visit place if you are planning a trip to Minicoy Island. However, the foreign nationals are not allowed to visit this island.

one of the largest in Lakshadweep, the green of coconut trees, and the mirror-like surface of an inland lake as it nestles in one corner of the island. Minicoy has a culture very different from any other island - dress, language, food, all differ. Minicoy has a cluster of 10 villages, which are called Athiris, each presided over by a Moopan. A walk through the winding lanes of the villages is an indication of the culture here. Minicoy is renowned for its dance tradition: the lava dance is performed on festive occasions. There is a tuna canning factory - signifying its importance in tuna fishing and boat building activity. Privately managed cottages have been built on the isolated beaches and are available for...

Perch yourself here on top of this tall cylindrical beauty to get a fabulous bird's eye view of the Minicoy island! Fairly well maintained and clean, it is indeed quite a steep climb up the spiral, especially at the final top end with the gap narrowing down, but totally worth the effort. Plus size friends may be a bit disappointed. Hard to imagine how long back this was built (1885) and the only colonial structure of the islands in its time. Interestingly, the petroleum vapour burners of the bygone era are still kept as showpieces. The powerful light flashes every quarter of a minute. View from the top is absolutely breathtaking with a view of the green island laying in the lap of the turquoise sea. Watch out for slippery floor during rains and avoid getting up. #letsguide...

A visit to the Lighthouse is one of the attractions at Minicoy island. The lighthouse is situated near the southern end of the island is about 50 meters in height and is functional. There is a small fee of Rs. 20 for carrying camera or mobile phone with camera inside. At a given time only about 10-15 persons can climb the spiral stairs. It can be a tough climb for older persons and those with medical conditions. The last flight of stairs is quite steep to climb. Once at the top the the climbing ordeal is forgotten as we get a 360 degree view of the Minicoy island and the sea surrounding it. The island appears fully covered with lush green trees and the blue waters surrounding the island are truly mesmerising. Not...
