Disappointing Experience at Devbagh, Malvan
I visited Devbagh(mid may 2025) with high expectations of a peaceful, scenic drive where the river meets the beach. However, the experience turned out to be frustrating and disappointing.
The area was overcrowded with locals aggressively promoting boat tours at every stop, making it difficult to enjoy the surroundings.
Hotels and resorts obstructed any view of the river or sea, stripping the area of its natural beauty.
The narrow roads were heavily congested, adding to the chaos.
Parking fees were unavoidable—even for those who simply wanted to walk to the beach—and the beach itself was poorly maintained.
A particularly unpleasant encounter occurred at Suman Bhojnalay, a roadside eatery run by Dayal Shivram Raul. The staff was highly unprofessional, dismissing basic requests for snacks and arguing when we opted not to dine there. Frustrated by our decision, the owner retaliated by charging ₹100 for using the restroom, purely out of spite. When we objected, he aggressively argued that we had no choice but to either eat there or pay the fee. Furthermore, he arrogantly claimed that no police action could be taken against him, boldly betting ₹1 lakh that authorities would ignore any complaints against him. His rude and hostile behavior made the situation extremely uncomfortable.
At this point, tensions were rising, and it seemed as though the argument could turn into a full-blown confrontation. His behavior was so aggressive that we feared he might start abusing us verbally or even physically. Sensing the situation getting worse, we decided to pay Rs 100 to cool him down and leave immediately rather than escalate the matter. Determined to report the incident, we went to the local police station to file a complaint. However, given that we were 500 kilometers away from home and needed to return by the end of the day, we couldn’t stay to follow up on the matter. Whether or not the authorities took action against this establishment remains unknown, but what is clear is that such behavior is completely unacceptable, especially in a place that depends on tourism.
Overall, Devbagh felt more like a chaotic marketplace than a serene tourist destination. Visitors should be aware of the commercialized nature of this area and the questionable hospitality practices before...
