Located in the picturesque Konkan region of Maharashtra, Devgad Fort is a lesser-known but historically rich sea fort situated near Devgad town in Sindhudurg district. Built in 1729 by Dattajirao Angre, a descendant of the great Maratha naval commander Kanhoji Angre, the fort was strategically placed at the entrance of Devgad Creek to oversee maritime movements and protect the port.

Set against the backdrop of the Arabian Sea, the fort stands on a small hillock, surrounded by water on three sides. Although parts of the fort have weathered over time, key elements like the outer stone walls, bastions, and a few old cannons still survive. A small Ganesh temple inside the fort adds a spiritual touch to the place.

One of the main attractions is the 15-meter tall lighthouse, located within the fort premises. The lighthouse is usually open for visitors in the late afternoon (around 4–5 PM), and from the top, you get an incredible panoramic view of the vast sea, the port, and Devgad Beach. Surrounding the fort, the region is famous for Devgad Alphonso mangoes, adding a unique flavor to the overall visit. The nearby Devgad Beach, with its serene atmosphere and clean shoreline, makes the fort area a perfect weekend getaway.

However, the fort lacks modern amenities and proper maintenance. Some structures are in ruins, and there are no guided tours or detailed information boards. That said, the calm, pollution-free environment and cultural-historical vibe make it a worthwhile stop for history lovers and nature enthusiasts.
