Shahu Khas Bagh Wrestling Ground

Kolhapur's wrestlers are famous all over India.  It is like an equation of Kolhapur, the wrestler who went flying, when Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj of Baslay Kolhapur went on a tour abroad, he visited various stadiums in the city of Rome.  The specialty of this wrestling ground is a circular arena with a red colored wrestling clay in the center of the ground.  The round arena has enough space for 4-5 wrestlers to take place systematically at the same time.  Adjacent to this is a three meter circular area near the outer side which is of low height.  Tickets are more expensive for seating in this area during wrestling, as the wrestlers are seen more closely and properly from this area.  Then, from this open space, the outside part of the ground begins to rise in height for the spectators to sit on the sidelines.  The height of the arena is low on the inner arena side so outside i.e. wrestling fans who are not familiar with wrestling arenas can see every wrestling action going on in the arena.  This ground is shaped like a saucer.

शाहू खासबाग कुस्त्यांचे मैदान

कोल्हापूरच्या मल्लांची ख्याती भारतभर आहे. फेटा उडवीत निघालेल्या पैलवान कोल्हापूरचा, हे तर जणू समीकरणच होऊन बसलय कोल्हापूरचे छत्रपती शाहू महाराज परदेशात दौऱ्यावर गेले असताना त्यांनी रोम शहरातील विविध स्टेडीअमना भेटी दिल्या त्या भागातील मैदाने त्यांच्या मनात भरली या मैदानांमधील जमेच्या बाजू पाहून महाराजांनी या मैदानाची प्रतिकृती सदृश्य वास्तु आपल्या शहरात बांधली. या कुस्त्यांच्या मैदानाचे वैशिष्ट्य म्हणजे या मैदानाच्या मध्यभागी तांबड्या रंगाची कुस्त्यांची माती असणारा वर्तुळाकार आखाडा आहे. गोल आखाड्यात एकाच वेळी ४-५ कुस्त्या व्यवस्थपणे पार पडतील इतपत पुरेशी जागा आहे. याला लागून असणारा जवळचा बाहेरील बाजूचा तीन मीटर वर्तुळाकार भाग कमी उंचीचा आहे. कुस्तीच्या वेळी या जागेमध्ये बसण्यासाठी अधिक दराच्या प्रवेशिका असतात, कारण या ठिकाणाहून कुस्त्या अधिक जवळून व व्यवस्थितपणे दिसतात. नंतर या मोकळ्या जागेकडून बाजूला प्रेक्षक बसण्यासाठी बाहेरच्या बाजूला उंची वाढत जाणारा मैदानाचा भाग सुरु होतो. आतील आखाड्याकडील बाजूला या मैदानाची उंची कमी आहे त्यामुळे बाहेर म्हणजे कुस्त्याच्या मैदानात असामान्य शौकीनांना मैदानात चालू असणारी प्रत्येक कुस्ती अगदी व्यवस्थीतपणे दिसू शकते. बशीच्या आकाराप्रमाणे या मैदानाची रचना आहे.
