Ancient architecture has always surprised everyone by its structure and hugeness. In ancient times simple structures were constructed in such a way that it became synonymous to the person it belonged too.
For eg water wells of general public had to be different from those belonging to kings and rulers. The structure’s magnitude and glamour clearly differentiated this.
We came across one such beauty during our trek to karad region. This well is called “ naktya ravlyachi vihir”. It lies near the banks of Koyna river in karad.
The well is more than 100 ft long and a 3 storied building with more than 80 steps to reach the bottom of the well. The well has well arched door type structure to give it a palatial look.
The sides of the well are at a slope of 70-80 degrees and the angle is so perfect that the sides seem to be mirror image of each other. The steps are also uniform in shape and size.
God knows what kind of super tools these people had to construct such a beauty to such an accuracy. But to even think of constructing such a mammoth structure must be Brainy creature.

It is believed that it was part of Pantancha Kot fort of Karad and this well also played a vital role during battle as it had secret underground tunnels which were used for the supply of food & ammunition to the fort. This well is more than 100 ft. deep octagonal in shape and around 50 ft. in diameter with 84 steps. Do visit to see the amazing architectural structure of our history. The well is very close to Koyana river at the confluence with river Krishna. Structure is still in good condition and is under control of ASI. The place is outside from main road & too quiet. Most of the area are covered by the locals. It's just 2 kms away from Karad Bus stand and 500 mtr. from well known Priti Sangam. Entrance gate is always locked & no security is there.
