Not very popular but BHOR a small town in Pune, Maharashtra, is definitely a place for the nearest weekend gateway form Pune. The place is a hidden gem with lush green breathtaking scenic beauty located amidst the beautiful Western Ghats. About a 60 KM away from Pune City, the drive to Bhor through the Highway itself is exhilarating, you will find yourself surrounded by the green mountains from all sides. It's a perfect picnic spot with family and friends. The place was once the princely state of British India. Apart from picnics one can do a lot of sight seeing in a days trip to Bhor visiting the renowned Bhatghar Dam, the Rajwada, the Bhor Palace, the Fort etc. One of the most famous spot in Bhor is the Necklace Point where the Nira & Gunjawani River unites and make a necklace going around the meadow, surrounded by thick foliage in monsoon season. Visited on a weekend, in the evening, the place isn't crowded. Vehicles can be parked beside the road and in a few steps towards the edge of the hill you get the view of the river down appears to be a perfect horseshoe or necklace. There are few boulders but not a place one can sit for long and enjoy the view. No tickets required to see this miracle of nature!!

Read till end. This is a must have 5-min pitstop if you are travelling to Bhor / Bhatghar. You certainly won't spend more than 10-15 minutes at this stop, but those few minutes stop would be worth it. The scenery from this point is really fascinating. The horse-shoe bend to the river looks amazing. Although there must be many such bends in the world, a vantage point giving such a panoramic view of the bend must be very view. Necklace point is about an hour's drive from Pune. Unless you are fond of long drives, it won't be worth it to cut through heavy traffic in Pune to spend mere 10 minutes at this spot. Here's an idea - There are several small resorts around the area, particularly near Bhatghar dam (about 5min drive from the Necklace point) which check-in at 4pm and check-out at 11am next day. Book one such resort. Plan it such that you visit the resort at 4pm, have a high tea and drive back for 5min to the necklace point at around 5pm - 6pm to enjoy the beauty of the spot at dusky sunlight. Believe me, photos look great at sun-down. Later, go back to resort, enjoy tent stay on the banks of Bhatghar dam.

If you donβt want to spend much time in travelling but want to be around the beautiful scenic view of the nature then this is the exact place where you should be. This place is called Necklace Point because the river originated from the dam water is completely in the shape of a necklace if you watch it from the mountain high point. I have added few pictures for you guys , so you get the clear idea how does it actually look. One can also visit the BHATGHAR DAM , which is just 6 kms away from necklace point . Both these places can be covered into in 1 days trips. It is just 40-50 kms from pune city . One must go to Bhatghar dam as the dam is too huge (approx 5 Kms). And the has waves and tides cause of the strong wind which will give you a feeling as if your on a beach . The place is not known to many people and isnt very famous yet to make the crowd gather . So you may get to enjoy a lot there. Thanks Vivek Sakore

Necklace Point - Bhor, Pune Bhor village is located 189 km from Mumbai and 46 km from Pune on the Mumbai-Bangalore highway. You can reach here from Mumbai-Pune-Bangalore Highway or Old Katraj Ghat Road. This necklace point you can easily see at 10 km or about 15 minutes on the way to Bhor from Kapurhol-Bhor road. Except for the highway, the inner road leading to Bhor is a bit bad, so be careful while driving. Necklace Point is located on the Nira River and the Nira River originates from the nearby Pandava water tank at Shirgaon. The water coming to Nira river is from Yelwanti river which ends in Bhatghar dam. Water is released from Bhatghar dam to Nira river. Further the river flows towards Pune-Solapur. Necklace Point is a marvelous work of art created by nature. This point looks very beautiful in the rainy season. In just one day from Mumbai Pune, you can visit this point, Bhatghar Dam and the surrounding area.
