The Shri Uttara Chidambaram Nataraja Mandir, located in Satara, Maharashtra, is a distinguished temple dedicated to Lord Nataraja, an embodiment of Lord Shiva performing the cosmic dance, Tandava. This temple is a faithful replica of the renowned Chidambaram Temple in Tamil Nadu, earning it the moniker “Uttara Chidambaram” or “Northern Chidambaram.”

Established in 1985, the temple’s inception was inspired by Pujyasri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Mahaswamiji during his stay in Satara. The construction was a collaborative effort, with contributions from the state governments of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, while Kerala provided the timber required for the structure. Renowned architect M. S. Ganapathi Sthapathi led the design, ensuring the temple’s adherence to traditional Dravidian architectural principles.

The temple complex is notable for its intricate carvings and sculptures, including 180 representations of Bharatnatyam dance mudras. It houses several shrines dedicated to various deities, such as Adi Shankaracharya, Lord Ayyappa, Lord Hanuman, Radha-Krishna, the Navagrahas, and Lord Ganesha, reflecting a confluence of spiritual traditions.

Situated along National Highway 4, the temple is easily accessible and serves as a significant spiritual and cultural landmark in the region. Its serene ambiance and architectural grandeur make it a must-visit destination for devotees and...

Shri Uttar Chidambaram Nataraj Mandir in Satara is a unique and well-maintained temple dedicated to Lord Nataraja, inspired by the original Chidambaram temple in Tamil Nadu. Here’s an honest review:

Pros:

✅ Architectural Beauty – The temple is built in the traditional Dravidian style, with intricate carvings and a peaceful ambiance. ✅ Spiritual Vibes – The temple is clean, well-maintained, and has a serene atmosphere, making it ideal for meditation and prayers. ✅ Cultural Importance – It represents Lord Shiva’s Nataraja form (the cosmic dancer), making it a significant pilgrimage site for Shaivites. ✅ Less Crowded – Compared to other famous temples, it is less crowded, allowing for a calm darshan experience. ✅ Good Location – Easily accessible from Satara city, with ample parking space.

Cons:

❌ Less Known – Since it’s not as famous as the original Chidambaram temple, it doesn't attract large crowds or devotees outside specific circles. ❌ Limited Facilities – The surrounding area has fewer shops and food stalls, so visitors may need to plan accordingly. ❌ Weather Factor – Since it’s in an open area, visiting in the afternoon can be hot, so mornings or evenings are better.

Final Verdict:

If you are a devotee of Lord Shiva or appreciate South Indian temple architecture, this place is a must-visit. It’s peaceful, well-maintained, and provides a divine experience without the hustle of larger...

The Uttara Chidambaram Natraja temple is a beautiful place located just off the National Highway NH4 connecting to Satara Solapur road. A majestic Lord Nataraj temple with gopuram over the four getaways is replica of the original in Tamilnadu. All 4 gopuram have been made with the help of 4 CM's of different states namely Andhrapradesh, Karanataka, Tamilnadu and Maharashtra. The temple is dedicated to Lord Nataraj (lord of dancing). This temple complex also have a smaller sanctums of Swami Ayappa, Shri Hanuman, Shri Ganesh, Radha krishna and Navagraha etc. This temple has an excellent architecture and well maintained. Better to reach before 7pm at Sandhya aarti time to get God's blessings. This pious place is very popular among locals as well as tourists from outside. Being a place of great religious significance this temple is open to all its visitors for free. No rush at all, anytime. Photography is strictly prohibited. Temple timing is 7am to 12 noon and 3pm to 8.30 pm. This place is 3 km away from Satara 111from Pune and 260 from Mumbai. Must visit place in Satara city!!
