For long I had nurtured a dream of visiting Mayapur, the birthplace of ISKON and the origin of Gaudiya Vaishnbites propounded by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Traveling by car for about 130 km by road from Kolkata, I reached this holy shrine of Radha-Krishna in less than 3 hours. Once inside the ISKON complex which houses a couple of temples like Chandrodaya temple, Radha-Krishna temple, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu temple, and the Samadhi temple of Sri Prabhupada, realized peace of mind dominated by spiritual fervor all around the place. Offered prayers at these places along with other devotees chanting Hare Krishna Hare Ram Sankranti. The campus is amazing with lots of greenery and it is a vibrant place with milling Krishna devotees. In the community hall, along with other tourists, I partake in the Prasad(lunch) which is very delicious. Spent a couple of hours in this great place of pilgrimage where visitors from around the world visit year-round. More so, it is the global head qtrs of ISKON. Notably, it is a self-contained Township with guest houses, hospitals, restaurants, schools, etc. The road trip to Mayapur in Nadia District is enchanting with lots of greens like paddy fields, and mango and banana plantations doting both sides...
Read moreIt is one of the holly places for Krishna devotes, large temples including Shila prabhupada mandir, large Krishna temple. There are several buildings in the campus named Gada bhavan, Namhatta bhavan, chaitanya bhavan etc. Pre booking is recommended if you planning for a stay although you can also stay outside hotels. Mahaprasadam cost around 50_ 80₹ per head depends. if you are looking for a 2 day trip from Kolkata it can be a choice.
Special recommendation:- I suggest, get a hotel (400_700₹ per night) near mayapur ghat it will cost much cheaper than the hotels around the temple (1800_3000₹ per night)
Comment:- Staying in the campus applies several conditions like you have to enter the campus within 8:30pm, you cannot even drink a cup of tea inside etc. You have to buy tickets to enter the temple of prabhupada. We stayed in the Namhatta bhavan and the receptionist didn't behave well, his attitude is like he is giving me a favor, the room cost 900₹ a day. We felt it becoming more...
Read moreSo sorry to indicate that, we had very bad experience from your people. We are not new in spiritual path. I had been to many institutions, like Art of Living International, Bangalore, Matha Amruthanandamayi Matt Kerala, Sri Ramakrishna Math Belur , Santhigiri Ashram Trivandrum- to mention a few. Every where, we had very good experience.
Right from the shoe stall, mobile keeping stall your people are so arrogant.i feel they are paid staff. If so, they need to be given proper training, how to deal with devotees. They have to understand, those who are coming here are not tourists, they are people in spiritual path.
Your people's behaviour makes a doubt in our mind, is it a spiritual organisation at all ?
One our team member was down with fever. Your office showed. Arrogant attitude towards us when requested whether she can take rest in your office.
