Shilonda Trail Shilonda is situated in the womb of SANJAY GANDHI NATIONAL PARK (SGNP), Borivali, Mumbai. One can reach gate of SGNP from Borivali Railway Station (Western Railway) by either BEST bus service or by auto rickshaw. The entry ticket to get in SGNP is ₹ 49 (adult). From the entrance Shilonda is 2-2.2 km deep inside dense forest. Various ways of transportation is available to reach shilondaby bus (₹ 15), Jeep (₹ 75)(charges are for one way journey) and by rented bicycle (₹ 200- 4 hours) I will suggest either to take your own private vehicle (extra charges at entrance) or walk down the dense forest on concrete roads enjoying the mother nature, it takes approximately half hour to reach shilonda by walking from entrance. (All the transportation are towards Kanheri caves, one needs to get down in between near shilonda point entrance if they choose to take a transport vehicle) Shilonda is the most diverse hot-spot for flora and fauna in SGNP so this place is restricted for normal visitors. One need to procure permission letter if they wish to go on shilonda trail. Permission is easily available for college group students who are accompanied with their teachers and also other wildlife of nature club members. The best time to visit is during rainy season as you can enjoy in the rivers which are full with water. The water level is usually upto 4-5 feets deep which usually safe during normal rain, but please do not venture in the during heavy rain. Carry some light snacks and fruits and plenty amount of water.

It is one of the best and oldest trails of Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Shilonda trail has 2 streams and it is best during monsoon due to greenery it gives the best experience. You can see many reptiles, insects, butterflies and small and big mammals. Many bird calls you can listen to. Coucal, Barbet, Kingfisher, Sunbird, Woodpecker, Bulbul. If you are lucky then you can see leopard 🐆 on this trail. Snakes , reptiles, spiders, scorpions and many small animals can see. It also has a Machan for Sighting. Also you can see many trees here. It is one of the best trails in Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Do visit.

Can't get a better experience of being close to nature in Mumbai. An easy trail which is perfect for families with younger kids. A naturalist does accompany on the trail as per the park rules, which is a good experience. We saw a lot of bugs, spiders, butterflies, crabs and a sambar deer upclose. There is a stream at the end of the trail. Possible to take the car all the way to the starting point.

To be one with nature in the heart of the financial capital of the country is a boon. Thanks to the spotted deer (Axis axis) that provides a sight to sore eyes and the beautiful flying friends, avian beauties, this trail breathes life into our lost souls. Start early when the place opens at 7:30 am from the Borivali gate, can't be earlier than that and head into this natural preserve... The Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Only a section of the park is open to citizens so in order not to disturb the park's most prestigious citizens, the leopards (Panthera pardus). When green spaces are reducing, we must work harder to preserve such lovely spaces. The morning brings birding enthusiasts, joggers, cyclists, some vehicles, in fact plenty of vehicles that disturb the serene environment and must one fine day be stopped or be replaced by electric vehicles as a part of the inside facility and not private plying that happens. Overall, the place is a delight and there are many takers in Mumbai, kids, mummy, daddy, couples, groups, grand old ones and some loners. Well, I traveled all the way from Pune to be here and after the initial shock at finding crowd at the gates, I was much absorbed by the beauty that awaits and gradually as you keep proceeding, the crowd thins. Come one, come all but do bring a lot of time along for it cannot be done in two...

One of the most beautiful, explorative and simple trail in Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivali. Monsoon is one of the best time to visit here Book you trail at Nature Interpretation Centre (NIC) inside SGNP. It is mandatory to that a naturalist should accompany you as this part of the forest is reserve. Apart from the SGNP gate entry fees 50/- in 2019 and Silonda entry fees you also have to pay 250/hour to the naturalist. The naturalist are students/researcher/scientist from Zoology/Botany/wildlife background working voluntarily at NIC Washroom facilities are available near NIC. You can park your vehicle outside Silonda gate (1.5km from NIC) Entry without valid entry receipt and naturalist is not allowed here and if found with any of this it...
