Dhundiraj Govind Phalke was/is popularly known as Dadasaheb Phalke. He was born in a Deshastha Brahmin family on 30.4.1870 at Tryambakeshwar and died on 16.2.1944 at the age of 73 years in Nasik. His father was an accomplished scholar. He joined Kala Bhavan in Baroda, to study sculpture, engineering, drawing, painting and photography and came out successfully. He was/is recognised as the father of Indian cinema. He was a well known producer, director and screen-script writer in India. He started with his debut film, Raja Harishchandra in 1913, a full length feature movie and made 95 movies and 26 short films in his career of 19 years. It is very good looking memorial to the legendary film maker Dada Saheb Phalke on a large extent of land measuring about 29 acres. It includes a place for meditation, conference hall and an exhibition center displaying the works of late Dadasaheb Phalke. There is an attractive musical fountain in this garden. While visiting here one can even visit the pandavleni caves. Overall it is a very beautiful place, best to be visited post monsoon so that you can get a bliss of wonderful climate with a lush green surrounding. I have been visiting this place since I was 4 when we used to visit here along our family friends carrying our eatables and having a gala time in the gardens and play area.
