GARRUDA PARK — Attraction in Puducherry

We went on a working day. Garruda Park in Puducherry is a popular tourist destination that showcases a wide variety of animals and birds. Located 13 km from White Town, near Ousteri Lake, this park is the first animal park in Pondicherry and was opened in December 2022.

Garuda Park offers a unique opportunity to interact closely with different birds and animals, making it a memorable spot for families, especially with kids above 3 years.

Highlights:

Seeing an ostrich up close and even feeding it was an extraordinary experience.

Feeding parrots and macaws was both fun and new.

Holding an iguana was daring, and handling a ball python as it moved around my hand was truly a dream come true.

Feeding koi fish by hand was also a delightful experience, something children will especially enjoy.

Areas for Improvement:

Maintenance & Cleanliness: The park overall needs better upkeep.

Aquarium: The aquarium lacked variety and proper maintenance. Though it’s primarily a bird park, adding exotic fishes could attract more visitors.

Cattle & Small Animals: The roosters, hens, guinea pigs, and rabbits seemed uninterested and inactive. Providing them with better enclosures and activities (rather than just cages) could improve their well-being. For example, the Persian cat was given a plastic ball to play with, but something like a woollen ball and climbing shelves would make it happier and more engaging to watch.
