Bring appropriate clothing and water, although vendors are available nearby. • Food and Drinks: Small stalls outside the venue sell snacks and water, but popcorn, ice cream etc are being sold inside the seating area as well.

Evening Ceremony: A Spectacle of National Pride

The highlight of our visit was the evening ceremony, also known as the Beating Retreat Ceremony. The energetic and synchronized performance by the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel left us mesmerized. The perfectly choreographed drill, accompanied by patriotic music, sent shivers down our spines.

The students, who accompanied me on this trip, were equally enthralled. Their eyes sparkled with excitement as they watched the ceremony, and they enthusiastically joined in the chanting of "Vande Mataram" and "Bharat Mata Ki Jai." The experience not only instilled national pride but also taught them valuable lessons about discipline, unity, and sacrifice.

Up-Close and Personal with the Border

What made our visit even more special was the opportunity to get remarkably close to the international border. Standing just a few feet away from the border, we felt a sense of pride and responsibility towards our nation. The students were fascinated by the proximity and took turns clicking photographs with the iconic Indian flag.

BSD Army Museum and Short Film

Before the ceremony, we visited the BSD Army Museum, which showcases the history and achievements of the BSF. The museum offers a glimpse into the courageous lives of our soldiers, who tirelessly guard our borders. We also watched a short film on the BSF's heroic endeavors, which left us with a deeper appreciation for their selfless service.

Joint Check Post of India 🇮🇳 and Pakistan 🇵🇰. It is the Line of Control separating two major cities of Amritsar in India and Lahore in Pakistan.

Must-visit place near Amritsar for Beating Retreat or Flag lowering Ceremony which is done daily from 4 PM to 5 PM. Go as early as 2-2:30 PM if you want a seat of your choice.

It is 45-min drive from Amritsar city in a car and 1 hour drive in shared auto which costs 200 INR per person round trip.

Shared auto leaves you 500 m before main entry, you can either walk or hire auto-rickshaws costing 50 INR. Your own vehicle can be parked inside in a very large parking space near Shahi Qila.

You see an Indian Flag standing tall in front of you. Women and men lines are separated for security check. Women bags are not allowed and can be put in lockers.

On entering towards right, you see the actual complex with INDIA written on it and road leading to actual line of control and then to Lahore in Pakistan 🇵🇰.

You can’t go near the gate if you are late so you can sit in the upper portions for which you have to climb a lot of stairs quite high to be honest so plan accordingly.

Witness the energy from both sides and dive in the feeling of nationalism with fellow Indians.

Do visit BSF Museum (10 INR Entry charges) on the right to know more about Border Security Forces. There is a small fighter jet placed for photogenic people.

Some vendors were selling tea, coffee and snacks also outside. Exit is through the straight road leading to amritsar.

Don’t forget to buy souvenirs like T-shirt, toy guns, fridge magnets being sold by BSF on exit. Although, you can get these items at some lower prices on further exiting.

Luckily, Chief Minister of Punjab, Shri Bhagwant Mann Ji was also there with his wife to honour the ceremony.

If you ever feel low, go to Attari - Wagah Border to witness the enthusiasm of BSF and Indians.

I remember going once in 2005 when it was all chaos but now it is very well managed.
