The famous temple of Arududevi is located in the Abu Mountains in Sirohi district of Rajasthan. In ancient inscriptions and literary texts, Abu Mountains have been called arubadgiri or arubudanchal. Arududevi is the goddess Devi of Abu. Abu Mountains were considered to be the residence of Dhakkaka Dharma and the residence of Arubesvari. The temple of Arbudadevi comes from Narwai pond to Achaleshwar. This small temple, made of white marble, is situated in the middle of a high and huge hill and looks very gorgeous and attractive.

This ancient temple is located above the residential settlement of Abu mountains at an altitude of 4250 feet. Approximately 450 steps to climb the temple. In this temple, the Goddess is the ancient and famous statue of Ambika, which is famous as the Goddess Arbuda Devi. In the middle of the mountain, a statue built on a rock, in a cave, the statue of the goddess Durga is installed beneath the huge rock, which appears to be such that there is no support or standing in the air of the base. Arbudadevi is also known as 'Ardar Devi' due to being seen standing in the way without touching the land. The statue of the goddess Devi, considered to be the protector of Abu Mountains and the city, is of Krishna Varna, whose frontal is shiny with silver and is holding a golden crown on the head. In order to enter the temple of Arududa Devi, devotees have to sit through the narrow path of the cave. A Shiva temple is also built near the entrance gate of the temple.

I visited the Aburda Devi Temple at Abu Parvat during Navratri with my wife and two little daughters, and the experience was truly spiritual and memorable.

The temple, nestled on a hilltop, offers stunning panoramic views of Mount Abu and the surrounding Aravalli ranges. The trek to the temple is moderately challenging but manageable, even with young children. There are steps leading up to the temple, and although the climb can be tiring, the cool mountain breeze and peaceful atmosphere make it worthwhile. I recommend taking short breaks along the way to enjoy the scenery.

The temple itself is beautifully maintained, with vibrant Navratri decorations that added to the festive mood. The darshan during Navratri was smooth despite the increased footfall. Devotees were respectful, and the whole environment was calm and organized. We felt a deep sense of tranquility and devotion as we offered our prayers.

What made this visit extra special was the view from the temple—it’s breathtaking! We arrived in the late afternoon, and as the sun began to set, the golden hues across the horizon made for a perfect ending to our visit. The temple bell ringing in the backdrop as the sun dipped behind the hills was a magical experience for our family.

A few tips for fellow travelers:

Footwear: Wear comfortable shoes as the climb has a lot of steps. Water: Carry plenty of water, especially if you’re visiting with children. Beware of Monkeys: Monkeys are present around the temple and can be aggressive in snatching food. Feeding them is strictly prohibited, and violators can face a fine (jurmana). Keep your food secured! Best Time to Visit: Early morning or late afternoon for the most pleasant weather and views. Parking: There’s adequate parking at the base of the hill.

Overall, visiting Aburda Devi Temple during Navratri was a divine experience. My family and I felt blessed to be part of the celebrations, and I highly recommend this temple to anyone...

The temple is visited by people in large number during the nine days of the famous festival ‘Navratri. The scenic beauty amidst which the temple stands is quite breathtaking. The entire Mount Abu town is visible from the top. Arbuda Devi is considered as the incarnation of Katyayani Devi. Some historians believe that Parmar rulers were originated at Mount Abu from ‘Agnikund’, which is why Arbuda Devi is still the Ancestral Goddess of Parmar Kshatriyas. Dhoodh Baori, a sacred well with milk coloured water near the temple is believed to have heavenly powers. The locals consider the well as a form of Kamadhenu (Holy Cow), the well is also the main source of water for the temple. The temple is constructed out of one huge solid piece of rock and the inner sanctum is reaching by crawling a narrow cave. It is one of the best specimens of rock-cut temples in India.
