We have visited mt abu for many times, at least twice a year since last 5-6 years. We used to stay at Silveroak hotel, this time I thought to try something else for a change, and after reading lot of reviews and seeing pics I finalized Palanpur Palace. The location is good, somehow we did not get rooms with view and that was ok as it was weekend.
Food was a big down, the first day we tried aloo paratha, which is being common dish across india chances of having it bad in taste are low, and in such a hotel, very low, but they were one of the worst we had.
Next day, in the breakfast, we found a cockroach, there was no one to attend, I tried calling up waiter 3 times, he came after few minutes, took our plates and vanished, didnt say a word. I was looking for any manager around, but no one was there, being it a Sunday morning, more than 20 persons having breakfast, still no one around.
I went to reception and talked about the incident, they apologized, and took me to manager's cabin, he said sorry for the negligence and would take care of this, offered me a better room if we wished to stay a night longer, but we just cant.
I agree such things happen, we have faced it earlier at many places, but always there were someone to attend and solve the issue. Other food items were also worst, idlis were uncooked, bananas were not even eatable. We had 2 more couple with us, they did not have breakfast included, so they paid over 1k just to have bread butter :)
And along with this, the another trouble was, bathroom had a very bad smell, we thought it might be due to monsoon, but we cant expect from such a hotel.
Rooms were spacious and clean though.
Will definitely not go again there, and I wish they take care of these things, manager was quite polite, but not sure how was...
Read moreA summer retreat, Palanpur House is to do but seep in the history of the land, soak in the colors, and experience the royal life of a Maharaja. The view from the balcony of the hotel rooms is spectacular with Aravali Ranges, placid lake and natural beauty with panoramic views. Whether you want to explore the city or find one special place for an unforgettable escape this is the place to be.
It was constructed more than a century ago by Nawab Sher Mohammed Khan of Palanpur state. Later his son Nawab Taley Mohammed Khan took keen interest and further furnished it to make it an ideal summer palace.
The present Nawab Iqabal Mohammed Khan provided more glory and glamour to this palace to stand out amongst other Palaces. It was Nawab Taley Mohammed khan, who had the idea of converting a part of this palace from 1923 to1936 for a hotel purpose. It was named “Mount Hotel” and later Englishman named it as “Hotel Skeltania”
One of my all time fav fav palaces in Mt. Abu. One of the many reasons I love this place is because it is lost in time and still eludes that charm and rustic beauty.

Read morethere are some very good things like impeccable service provided by each and every staff and full attention to our every need to make our stay comfortable. but the property is outdated. though they have changed bathroom fittings but the towels were worn out and needs immediate replacement. the furniture paint / polish is peeling off. The ceiling shows peeling joints. The matress and sofa were sagging. bed covers were not white enough to feel cozy and hygienic. upon my asking, the receptionist guy Mr. Bharat told me that they did not get permission to renovate the property. but now they recently got permission to upgrade the property, it's going to be totally renovated with swimming pool and all. i hope they do it ASAP before more people suffer like me. the food was good though. Surprisingly this hotel don't have a wheelchair which i required for my wife. The property has not accessiblily of wheelchair and no elevator to go to upper level for dining.
