Bhim Bhirak is an ancient Cave and a place of worship and meditation, located in the hills near Kayalana lake at the approx. distance of 10 km from Jodhpur Railway station. It is a saying that Pandavas had come to this place for refuge and to hide from Korvas during the period of their exile (अज्ञातवास), so this place is named after Pandav Bheem.
‘Bhidak’ (Bhirak) means a place of shelter under a huge rock in local dialects of Rajasthan.
Bhim Bhirak Cave is 60 ft. long and its average height is 7 ft. This cave ends in a dome shaped circular Temple where an idol of Goddess Bhagavati (one of the forms of Vaishnavi-Mata) is situated since the Vedic-era. Devotees visit this temple from all over the world and perform Vedic and Tantric Pooja, Sacred Fire Ceremonies, Mantra-chanting and Meditation there.
This picturesque Cave is surrounded by wild-life and is famous for as a picnic spot amongst local people. You can see hundreds of Hanuman Langoors (monkeys) and wild boars roaming here.
