It's a temple in the lap of nature on the hill top, commonly known as Shivgange hill. The whole experience is full of adventure, devotion and spiritual.
Decked on the top of the hill, about 6 Kms from Dabaspet junction on Bangalore Tumkur highway. As you travel towards Dabaspet Ramnagar road you can see the huge hill overlooking the complete northern landscape. A adventure and devotional seeker recieves the call for trekking up to hill to appreciate the glory of nature and almighty.
The trek to the top of the hill is full of fun, faith and testing physical stamina. Parking space at foothill is around the rectangular pond. The colourful steps invites you to tread on them. Initially after 100-150 steps the path upwards is well laid out with non uniform rocks of various sizes.
The gradient is steep and one may need to catch ones breath after 40 to 50 steps. The iron railing throught out the trek provides complete support , so risk on this trek is minimal.
Best way is take a break and enjoy the surrounding and after a pause them move forward. Lot of tea, fruit, water, eatables stalls on the way, however they open bit late so carrying two bottles of fresh water, few eatables, fruits etc for early morning climb is must.
The climb after mid way becomes very steep. The steps size is very uneven, with lot of high steps. The iron railing is very essential to move forward. The climb here onwards is not very wide so both climbing up and those coming down has to give way to each other.
The top portion of the hill is always covered with clouds especially in the morning hours (during summers) and this motivates to climb up. On reaching the summit the views all around are so beautiful and scenic. The breeze is blowing with good speed over here. One can spend one to two hours here enjoying the beuty around.
Only challenge is the monkey here are in large numbers and they attack the bags of the visitors expecting something to eat. So one has to be careful not to open bags and eat anything on the top. The monkeys even pluck flowers from ladies which they are using on hairs. So be careful about them especially on the top.
The downward journey is more tough as the complete load is taken by the knees, so people with knee pain or injury to be careful. The total time taken to climb is about 2 hours . It takes about one hour 40 minutes to climb down. On the way one can visit number of temples . On return journey all stalls get opened up and one can have adequate items to eat and drink.
Overall a wonderful experience, must visit while in Bangalore, start the climb early ( by 0600) to avoid heat...
Read moreShivagange trekking turned out to be a unforgettable trip for us. It is just 60 km away from Bengaluru city. Try to reach at the base early morning so that you could climb up without getting burned by the sun. It will be very foggy in the morning and that is the most wonderful thing you can enjoy at top. Clouds will literally go through you. It felt something like we have reached heaven. Extra care have to be taken while climbing up and down because half of way is very steep and improper a small negligence may cost your life. On the top there is a Nandi's statue. Climbing up there is a nerve breaking process. But you can get a 360 view of the entire region from there. You can find severel temples on the way other than the one in the top. Be cautious of the Monkeys but not scared. Keep any Bottle and eatable inside a bag because that's the only thing they will go for. Otherwise they are very cool animals, We even clicked pictures with them. If you are a fussy eater then don't expect any good restaurants at the place. You will have to do with Snacks and Juices for which there are plenty of Local stalls and shops along the way to the top. Wear good sports/trekking shoes and don't rush to the top because the way is not at all proper as you can expect. For people with Self conveyance its better to leave home before sunrise if you are not fond of warm Sunlight while climbing.
A visit is highly...
Read moreThe trek is of easy level and is very scenic. The trek distance from the foothill to the summit is around 2.5 kms which would take 2-3 hours based on the individuals pace. Most part of the trail is over steps. Some part of it is Rocky but manageable. The first temple you get on the way is oralKallu theertha where you get to know whether you have committed any sins. Inside this cave temple you have grinding stone folded with water. The water looks reachable apparently but only a few(the non sinners) get to fetch the water. Reaching this would take about 30-45 mins. From here further uphill would be the shiva Parvathi temple. Big status of the duo along with the nandi can be seen here. This is again 30-45 minutes from oralKallu temple. From here stays your adventurous journey of very small narrow steps and the attacking brutes. Beware of bags. Hold something in the hand to shoo them away. This will take an hour more to reach the summit. Three places - a nandi idol carved at a location unimaginable, temples, shantala drop. The wind is quite gusty here. The downhill would again take almost the same time as much as uphill. There are shacks throughout serving cucumber, fruits, bhel Puri, water and cool drinks. Make sure you plan to descend no later than 4 since it gets dark and the shacks get...
