Ranak Devi Temple — Attraction in Surendranagar

Ranak Devi Temple in Vadhwan, Surendranagar is an amazing, peaceful spot. 🙏

You will not find such a quiet, historical place easily.

It is a VERY old place.

The history here is deep. Ranakdevi, a queen of Junagadh, committed Sati right here by the Bhogavo river. She chose that over Siddharaj Jaisinh. It is a story of great strength.

And the way it is protected now, is also very important.

Hindu people inside this fort are protecting it. They are keeping it safe from Muslim invaders and WAQF land grabbers. This is why this important historical site is still standing strong. 🚩

Inside the fort, you will find the Ranak Devi Temple. And I counted, I guess 11 very old Shivalings. They have been there for so many years.

The best thing?

Humans rarely come here. That is why this place is so CLEAN. It is totally FREE from plastic pollution. Because when humans go somewhere, we usually just destroy nature. Here, it is different. It is perfectly preserved.

Ranakdevi Temple, belonging to the 10th century temples, is situated at Wadhwan inSurendranagar District of Gujarat.

This beautifully decorated temple consits of a full fledged Shikhara, a sanctum and a porch. It has sculptured niches on the cardinal offsets with simple design.

The temple is linked with a famous story of Sati Ranakdevi and the great Solanki ruler Siddhraj Jaisinh. Ranakdevi committed Sati at this place to protect her honour, when Siddhraj Jaisinh murdered her husband, Ra Khengar and her two sons.

વઢવાણમાં ભોગાવો નદીના દક્ષિણ કિનારે રાણકદેવીનો પાળિયો (સ્મારક પથ્થર) અને એક મંદિર હજુ પણ ઉભો છે.૬] હાલમાં વઢવાણના કિલ્લા પાસેના શિવ મંદિરને સ્થાનિક લોકો રાણકદેવીના મંદિર તરીકે ઓળખે છે.[૧]

મંદિરના સમય અને નિર્માણ વિશે કોઈ માહિતી નથી. બાંધકામની શૈલીના આધારે, આ મંદિર ૧૦મી સદીમાં બાંધવામાં આવેલું હોવાનું જણાય છે તેના શિખરની રચના મૈત્રક પછીના સમયગાળાની છે. તે સ્પષ્ટ નથી કે આ મંદિર ૧૨મી સદીના રાજા ખેંગારની રાણી રાણકદેવી સાથે કેવી રીતે સંકળાયેલું હતું.[૧] મધુસૂદન ઢાંકી અને હરિશંકર શાસ્ત્રીના જણાવ્યા અનુસાર, આ બાંધકામ કદાચ ૯મી સદીના છેલ્લા ચતુર્થાંશમાં વર્ધમાન (હાલ વઢવાણ) પર રાજ્ય કરનાર છાપા વંશના રાજા ધરણીવરહના શાસન દરમિયાન હતું.[૧ કાંતિલાલ સોમપુરાના જણાવ્યા અનુસાર, તે ૧૦મી સદી કરતાં પહેલાં બાંધવામાં આવ્યું હતું. ૧] જેમ્સ બર્ગેસે તેને રાણકદેવીના સ્મારક મંદિર તરીકે સૂચિબદ્ધ કર્યું હતું. [૧ આ મંદિર રાષ્ટ્રીય મહત્વના સ્મારકો તરીકે સૂચિબદ્ધ છે અને ભારતીય પુરાતત્વ સર્વેક્ષણ દ્વારા તેની જાળવણી કરવામાં આવી છે.

બારસાખ આ મંદિર મૈત્રક પછીના અને મારુ-ગુર્જરા સ્થાપત્યના પ્રારંભિક નાગર તબક્કાનું ઉદાહરણ છે.૬] આ મંદિર લગભગ ૯ મીટર ઊંચી એક મોટી પીઠ (પ્લેટફોર્મ) પર બાંધવામાં આવ્યું છે.[૧ ગ્રાસ-પટ્ટી (ઘાસના મોલ્ડિંગનો બેન્ડ) અહીં સૌપ્રથમ જોવા મળે છે જે આ પછીના સ્થાપત્યોની શૈલીમાં ચાલુ રહ્યો.૧ શિખર પર આમલક અને કળશના મોલ્ડિંગ્સ છે. આ મંદિરોની બાહ્ય ત્રણેય દિવાલોમાં કોઈપણ મૂર્તિઓ વગરની કોતરણી છે.[૧] તેમની ઉપર ઝીણું ફમસાના કોતરકામ છે.[૬] તેમાં કીર્તિમુખ, ચૈત્ય, ગવાક્ષ અને તમાલપત્રની સજાવટની કોતરણી પણ છે. ઉત્તર દિશામાં પાણીનો નિકાસ હોવાથી તે શિવ મંદિર હોવું જોઈએ એમ જણાય છે. આ મંદિર પાસે નંદીની મૂર્તિ પડેલી છે. ગર્ભગૃહમાં, બે સાદી મૂર્તિઓ મહાકાળી અને રાણકદેવી તરીકે ચિહ્નિત થયેલ છે. ગર્ભગૃહના દરવાજાની ફ્રેમમાં બ્રહ્મા, શિવ અને અન્યની...
