The Visit to this Sri Kailasanathar Temple, at Thiruchengode was a part of Namakkal District Temples and Heritage sites Visit on 24th February 2024. This Shiva Temple is in the midst of the Tiruchengode Town. Moolavar : Sri Kailasanathar Consort : Sri Suguntha Kunthalambigai Some of the salient features of this temple areтАж. The temple is facing east with a 5 tier Rajagopuram. A Stone Deepasthambam is in front of Rajagopuram. Balipeedam, Dwajasthambam and Rishabam are in front of open mukha mandapam. Moolavar is on a round avudayar. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and Durgai. Utsavars and Natarajar are in the ardhamandapam. In mukha mandapam cheppu idols of 63 var, Nalvar, Vinayagar, Dwarapalakas and Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar. In praharam, Vinayagar, Mukkoottu Vinayagar ( Three Vinayagars in a row ), Saptamatrikas, Vinayagar, Shiva Lingam, Ambal, 63 var, Vanni Vinayagar, Shiva Lingas, Murugan, Chandikeswarar, Bairavar, Navagrahas, Saniswarar, Chandran, Suryan and a Stucco Rishabam. Ambal is in a separate temple on the left side of the main temple. Ambal is facing east in standing posture with abhaya varada hastam. ARCHITECTURE The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. The temple was built with stone from adhistanam to prastaram. The sanctum sanctorum is on a pada bandha adhistanam with jagathy, three patta kumudam and pattikai. The Bhitti starts with vedika. The pilasters are of Vishnu kantha pilasters with square base and nagabandham, kalasam, kudam, palakai and pushpa pothyal. The prastaram consists of valapi, kapotam with Nasi kudus and Viyyalavari. . The super structure Vimanam was built with bricks. The Vimanam is of Vesara style. Shiva, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu and Brahma are in the tala and greeva kostams. The Mukha mandapam front side pillars are with yazhi pillars, similar to ketti mudali architecture at Tharamangalam, Bhavani, etc,. The rajagopuram ceiling has the beautiful bas reliefs. HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS The original temple may belongs to 10th to 11th century may be reconstructed during Vijayanagara Nayakas period.
