Chitlapakkam Lake — Attraction in Tamil Nadu

This is one among the few lakes protected by the residents. But the problems are the pollution of the lake by the western side residents sewerage and unplanned garbage shipyard of the chitlapakkam town panchayat. The beauty of lake bound was destroyed by encroachments by the temples and political party structures. Fortunately recently after 2017 rains these structures were removed. Many more structures including few residential buildings, party offices, commercials panchayat board office, post office, police station and higher secondary school are the occupants of the lake. More over the entire periyar bag at on the western side is a complete encroachments of the lake. I pray Lord almighty that there will be stern administrator to remove all the encroachments to restore the beauty of the lake which was in 1960s. There were two satellite lakes called THANGAL have completely disappeared because of encroachments. Pathetically the water used to flow from pachaimalai, a small hill and there is small temple at the bottom called Korathi Amman temple which is surrounded TB Sanatorium hospital. 2002 I ride to school in my bicycle, I see the lake daily and it is getting more polluted by date. The garbage pile next to Chitlapakkam school is growing leaps and bound every month. The only thing I love about the lake is Ayyappan temple, I go regularly, listen to bhajans, blissful feeling all the way back home.

2023 the only thing I love about the lake is gone, but everything has improved leaps and bounds, I still can be blissful visiting Gangai amman temple and as a bonus on good rainy days the pond next to it is full and now it also has park. In Ayyappan temple place now stands an open auditorium, I have not idea on how they are going to use it.

The lake is so pleasing to watch at sunset, with two natural islands in the middle and long walkway, nothing short of well spent money. I still miss the temple, but this compromise...

A beautiful Lake in Chitlapakkam, between Chrompet and Tambaram |Sanitorium. Very well developed Lake, Walking area has been well established not fully, a bit is left out. I can say it a Beach for Local residents. There is no eatable shop inside the Lake Area. A play area for children. It would be more beautiful if the park is installed with Ligets. Work is going on in full swing.

A great place to relax for the Public, not only for Locals, people from surrounding areas are visiting this. Morning Walk is a Fantastic exercise.

But I visited this place in the evening, just before Sun Set. You can witness a Beautiful Sun Set, from this Lake Location. It is a great Natural Treat ...
