Timings- From 8am Onwards till 6pm Entry fee - 10/- (On the way there is a toll gate where you have to pay 20/-) Caution - NO plastic is allowed here. It's better to avoid carrying plastic items. Shops - On reaching the peak, there are 2 shops which sell hot tea, lemon tea and coffee and various kinds of fried snacks-chilly bajji, noodles, dal vada etc. We, two people, drank 1 cup of lemon tea (20/- per cup) each. It was delicious. It was around 8AM (01 Aug 23), temp was around 14°C, with cool breeze flowing, the hot lemon tea with basil leaves was so refreshing and warming. While returning from the top, we enjoyed peanuts masala (cost - 30/-) at a shop downstairs which was also tasty. First floor - There is a telescopic aerial view available on 1st floor on climbing stairs. Since it was foggy, we didn't go there as nothing would have been visible. From the Top - Its a scenic view which people go to click some photographs. Other than that, the mountain top gives you beautiful landscape views of the surrounding hills, including Chamundi Hills, grassy plains of Mysore and Coimbatore including Karnataka border. One can even see the forests of Bandipur National Park from the top. Parking- The parking area is small and gets filled soon on public holidays. So either reach early in the morning hours or on week days. It is usually crowded in weekends. Otherwise you mayn't get parking space. Way Up - On the way up from the junction to the peak, the view is beautiful with tall trees on either sides of the road. The city view is also available where we halted and took some photographs. The weather was so chill and foggy, we went inside the jungle on either side of the road, not too far, clicked pics.

Okay, wrapping up my Ooty adventures, one of the most breathtaking stops was undoubtedly Doddabetta Peak. If you're in Ooty, this viewpoint is an absolute must-visit – literally, it's the highest point in the Nilgiri Hills, and the views are just incredible! The drive up to Doddabetta Peak is pretty scenic itself, winding through the lush Ooty landscape. Once you get to the parking area, there's a short walk up to the summit. It's not too strenuous, but the anticipation builds with every step. And then, you reach the top, and BAM! The panoramic views that unfold before you are simply stunning. You get an uninterrupted, 360-degree vista of the Nilgiri hills, stretching out seemingly forever. On a clear day, you can apparently even spot the plains of Coimbatore and the Mysore plateau. When I was there, it was a bit misty, which actually added to the magical, ethereal feel of the place – like floating above the clouds. There's a telescope house at the summit, which I found really cool. You can use the powerful telescopes to get a closer look at the distant landscapes, houses, and valleys, which is quite fascinating. The air at the peak is incredibly fresh and invigorating, and there's a definite chill, even on a sunny day. It's a great spot to just stand, breathe deeply, and soak in the vastness of nature. There are usually a few vendors selling hot tea and snacks, which is perfect for warming up while enjoying the view. It can get a little crowded, especially during peak season, but the sheer scale of the landscape means there's always space to find your own little spot to marvel at the scenery. Visiting Doddabetta Peak was an awe-inspiring experience. It’s a perfect spot to appreciate the grandeur of the Western Ghats and get a true sense of Ooty’s elevated beauty. If you love expansive views and fresh mountain air, definitely put this on your Ooty itinerary. It’s a moment where you just feel tiny in the best possible way, surrounded by nature’s majesty.

Today, I had the opportunity to visit Doddabetta Peak, the highest point in the Nilgiris, and it was truly an experience to remember. At an elevation of 2,637 meters (8,650 feet), this iconic peak offers not just breathtaking views but a refreshing atmosphere that redefines a high-altitude escape. Scenic Views & Location: Situated about 10 km from Ooty, Doddabetta is easily accessible by road. As you ascend toward the summit, the air becomes cooler and crisper, and the landscape transitions into a lush green spectacle. Once at the top, you're greeted with panoramic views of Ooty and the surrounding valleys, tea estates, and forested hills. On a clear day, you can spot places like Coonoor, Kotagiri, and even parts of Mysore in the distance. Atmosphere: The dynamic weather is one of the highlights. During my visit, the peak played host to shifting clouds, bursts of sunshine, and gentle mountain breezes—all within the span of an hour. It added a magical, almost surreal touch to the experience. One moment you're surrounded by mist, the next you're looking out at endless green expanses. Telescope House & Facilities: The Telescope House at the summit is a great spot for a closer look at the surrounding areas. It’s modest but offers a fun, touristy peek into distant landmarks. There are small food stalls and vendors selling local snacks like roasted corn, tea, and chocolates, which add to the charm of the visit. What to Expect: Mild trekking from the parking area to the viewpoint Crowds during weekends and holidays, so early mornings are ideal Scenic photography opportunities—bring a good camera or phone A need for light jackets due to chilly winds, even in summer Final Thoughts: Doddabetta Peak is not just a geographic high point but an emotional one too. Whether you're there for the views, the fresh air, or just a quiet moment with nature, it offers a unique perspective on the beauty of the Nilgiris. It's a must-visit spot for anyone traveling to Ooty.

Once at the summit, the expansive vistas of the rolling hills and tea plantations were awe-inspiring. On a clear day, the visibility was outstanding, allowing us to see the distant valleys and the town of Ooty below. The observation tower at Dhodabetta offered a 360-degree view, providing the perfect vantage point to capture the beauty of the landscape. The cool mountain breeze and the crisp air added to the overall experience, making it a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
